Is it possible? I have searched extensively here and on Sheldon Brown's site and have not found my answer. I want to replace the 7spd freehub body on a sachs (sram) internal geared hub which also has the seven speed cassette body and replace it with a 9spd freehub body -- essentially exactly what this guy did with and older 105 7spd hub:

Just curious if anyone knows whether I can remove the sachs freehub body and replace it with a shimano (or other) freehub. any help is greatly appreciated (as always.)
thanks!

I considered buying a wheel with that hub from someone who had replaced the 7 sprocket body with an 8 on the 3x7, the seller even had the older 7 speed body available if I wanted it instead of the 8. Didn't buy it, but it is apparently doable on that hub. I wouldn't expect it much different than standard freehubs, but I suppose there could be some caveots.

The sale forum was Bentrideronline classified, so if you don't get more specifics here, you might try posting in the tech talk portion over there to find someone that has done the mod.

Just this afternoon I was able to find an exploded diagram of a SRAM 3X7 freehub on the Bike Friday website. It looks to me like replacing freehub bodies would be a relatively simple operation but I haven't torn apart the hub that I'm working on yet. Try me again on the weekend.

thanks for the replies! I will look for the exploded view on the bike friday website and pm you, retrogrouch, if I haven't already tried it myself.
