I was just listening to Olympia Theater, Paris 05/04/72 from the collection on nugs (http://web1.nugs.net/stash.asp?cmd=shows&artist=1) in his honor.

I wish I would have gotten to go to a grateful dead concert but Jerry died when I was only 6
I went to a Dead concert at the Spectrum (remember that venue?) back in the 80's. I paid BIG money for floor tickets that were somewhere in the first 20 rows. I got there sat down and thought 'man, this is gonna be great!'. When the show started I found just how wrong I was! I ended up standing on my seat (a folding chair) with someones foot on either side of me... yeah 2 halves of people were standing on that chair with me.
After about 10 minutes of that crap, I said screw it and went and found a nice comfy seat up in the nosebleed section where I could chill aand dig the tunes un-molested. And I could bogart too! :D
The sound was terrible. All flat and undefined. I love The Dead, but would much rather put a disc on at home than to have gone to another live show.
