Bicycle Mechanics - KMC Z72 Chain
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Went to LBS today to pick up chain. I am replacing drive train on one of my mountain bikes. All they had was a KMC Z72 chain, It cost $10. Will this chain be any good? Anyone used it? I have an 8 speed.
It has a powerlink like the SRAM chains. The guy at the LBS told me that he doesn't like quick connectors and so i asked him what he uses then. He said nothing. He just pushes the pin back in. I thought that was a bad idea since the "peening" would be gone?
NObody has used KMC chains?

I have KMC chains on both my road bikes. It's been my experience that the fancy little chrome plated link works one time - to connect the two chain ends together. For removing/installing the chain thereafter, I push any other pin in and out using a typical chain tool.
I have had no problems with this chain but it doesn't have to work very hard. Both bikes have 6-speed rear cogs and a double chain ring up front, so the chain angle is not particularly severe.
Well, I ordered a Sram PC 58 instead. I think i will just keep this one around for backup. I just don't feel very good about it.
