I've never done one, but my friend Nick (who does them both into and out of backrail fufanus) says to make sure to hit the front pedal first.

Buy soccer shin guards for 6$ at K-Mart

Start off with a half rotation:

Stand up and roll at slow/mid speed.
Jump off your pedals with your back foot leaving last. This will force your crank to go backwards if you time your feet just right
Reverse your footing and land on the pedals front foot first(switch).

dude just kick the pedals. thats how i learned. just watch out for the pedals. if you haven't seen the Josh Stricker vid, where he tailwhip cranksflips and misses a pedal. you might end up looking like that.

crankflips are something that usually takes time. Make sure you wear pants when you try this. Go off a a small funbox launch, maybe a foot and a half high at most. Lift up your back foot, this will make your cranks drop a little. Right after you take your foot off, tilt your front foots toes twords the ground so you have more grip on the pedal, than spin the cranks. How you catch them is w/ your front foot first than your back. if you know your not gonna catch em, just try to land on ur seat.

i learned them on the ground at first. so you know how to flick them.

i can do them almost every time now, just catch the front pedal first, then get the back foot on too. it just takes commitment
