Anyone have info on how to date Motobecane bikes by the serial numbers on the BB? I seem to remember that the first digit or two is some kind of a date code, but I can't find any solid details on this - not even from Sheldon Brown (thought he was the god of French bikes!).
My Motobecane Grand Touring Bike is S/N 3757673. Anybody got any thoughts on this? Incidentally, this bike has a headbadge, not a decal, has the Motobecane logo in black, white and red on the inside of the seatpost, and the frame is Vitus 172 DB tubing. DR's are Suntour (VGT Luxe and Compe V), brakes are Weinmann 999 centerpulls. Saddle and shifters have been changed from original. Rims are Rigida and hubs are Normandy high-flange type.
