Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Picture it, just off of Times Square, a bit after 7AM... dedicated commuter oboeguy steps out of the bagel shop with a muffin and a bottle of Gatorade Propel. He begins to unfold his trusty Dahon, having folded it not five minutes before to get into the crowded shop. He takes in the scene, deciding if he can make the next light to cross Times Square and what does he hear but the sound of a car door being smashed by a fast moving truck! Yes, my friends, a doorer today instead of taking out an unwitting cyclist today nearly killed himself with his own stupidity.
Feel pity for the owner of the car service car which got smashed, but hope along with your friend oboeguy that he sues the pants off door-man if door-man doesn't pony-up for his stupidity. The truck driver should suffer no ill -- it was some bullet-proof city department of sanitation or other truck.
I was going to work 3 weeks ago on a tuesday when some moron pulled out of his parking spot INTO a sanitation truck that was passing by. The truck tore the entire front end off the car. I mean, not only did this guy fail check to see if there were any cars coming up before pulling out, he completely missed the giant truck that was already passing him.

I do not want to start anything with a senior member, but I think you just used one of those leet speak translators that replaces some letters with numbers. That's not very 1337.

Actually I didn't. (Seriously)
Secondly it's generally the case that the people who feel the need to use "|337" routinely actually have the least right to use it..
I once had an excellent view of an accident somewhat similar to the one described in the first post.
It was about 30 years ago but I always think of it when I think about dooring accidents. It happened on Main Street in St. Charles, MO - just a typical Main Street - narrow, with cars parked on both sides, fairly heavy but low speed traffic.
I was walking on the sidewalk. A woman had just parked up ahead and I just happened to be looking at her as she opened her door. SPLAT! A rather large utility truck just happened to be passing at that time and hit the door, swung it open and slammed it against the side of the car. It was hilarious. The woman was unhurt. Her car door was nothing but a mass af crumpled metal. The truck didn't appear to have a scratch on it (it had a massive bulletproof bumper on the front) but the driver was hopping mad. He stopped in the middle of the street, got out and started yelling at the lady, saying she had ruined his perfect driving record. There was nothing the woman could say. What she did was stupid. How do you not see a utility truck? Maybe next time she'll look before opening her door.
Maybe not.
I often think that what happened to her is what should happen to anyone who opens their door without looking. Nobody got hurt but there was a big thud when the door got slammed into the side of the car.

Probably a heat of the moment reaction. A 'dooring' is the fault of owner of said door. Any police report would find the truck not at fault and therefore not placed on his driving record nor a negative mark on his company records

Most people mean "intents and purposes". "Pwn" is a silly Internet bastardization of "own". It's meant to be derogatory. Example: playing an online shoot-'em-up game if you badly beat an opponent you now have the right to type "pwned!" as a trash-talk message. Some of us enjoy the silly 'net-speak while others get all red-faced and angry over nothing. :D

Those big giant trucks getting doored...It's all their fault. If they'd just take the lane and stop cringing over in the bike lane with their fear-from-the-rear inferiority complexes these things would never happen.

Now how about re-reading the guidelines?
Thanks...I confess it wasn't exactly a re-read, but I found this guideline quite instructive: "Excessive use of "AOL'ese" and "hAx0r" talk can be very disruptive so please keep it to a minimum."
And so, in the most amiable and collegial manner, may I suggest you consult a dictionary for the definitions of the words "excessive", and "minimum".

oh, and pwn originated from a typo in the game "warcraft" where the word "own" was misspelt by a dev and it slipped past their quality team.
"Pwn" eventually became Pwned (Owned), and then some SMS kiddiots made it pwnt.
As far as I care, Pwnt and Owned mean the same thing...pwnt is just a more ******** way of typing it.
