Considering new (non-STI) brake levers. Tektro and Cane Creek make a kind that looks good (the same unit, different brandkings), both in a normal length that Harris Cyclery says is good for people with big hands and a shorter, compact version. I'm a slightly-smaller-than-average male (5'8") and I think I might like the compact version. Anyone use these? How much smaller than the normal ones are they?

It was my impression that only the reach to the lever is smaller, not the hood or anything. I've never seen them in person though.

I have the cane creek (tektro) compacts...They are identical except for reach. The reach difference is only like 5mm or so. Even though I use size 9 gloves, I like the slight difference for breaking from the drops. If you didn't have the std side by side with the compact, you might miss the difference.

I don't know about the reach but they look great. They kind of a poor man's Campy lever. Does anyone know if the aluminum levers can fit into a Campy Ergo body.

I emailed Cane Creek and they told me this (yes, they actually responded, cool huh?):

"The SCR-5c have 5 mm less reach than the SCR-5. They have 7 or 8 mm less reach than a Dura Ace lever."

So it sounds like even the SCR-5s are smaller than Dura Aces by a few milimeterss.

Still, I have a hard time reaching my current levers in the drops, so maybe I'll try the compacts.
