Recreational & Family - Opinions on Raleigh Mojave 2.0

My wife and I have decided to get off our lazy butts and get some exercise. We went to a local bike dealer that has a great rep. After about 20 or so minutes of discussion on what we would need the bikes for/ where we would be riding, we settled on a pair of Raleigh Mojave 2.0s. I know jack squat about bikes, except that you don't buy them at big box stores. I have tried doing research on this bike, but can't seem to find anything on it, I am assuming that is because it appears to be new for '06. We can get into these bikes for $212 apiece, which is about all we can spend.

Is this going to be a great starter bike?

Is raleigh a good company?

If anyone has any other recomendations, my area code is 99337 just in case, so you can see if there is a dealer in my area that sells whatever other brand you might recommend.

I have been looking at the mohave my self.yes it is a good starter bike.yes Raliegh is a very good brand.$212.is a good price for it.go to their web sight and check them out.they have been around for a long time.that has to say something.
Do they sell any other brands at you LBS?you might look at some other bikes while you are there.
Any way congrats on the return to cycling.I hope you enjoy it as much as we all do.

Friday (our 5th anniversary) we decided to go down to the LBS to look at the bikes again. Unfortunately though the full suspension aluminum frame walmart special that I was borrowing had a flat, and me not being prepared had no way of fixing it. The wife took that bike to the LBS in the trunk of the car while I rode on the bike that she had been borrowing. Oh my goodness, for one its steel framed, so a whopping 45lbs! Plus I was pulling my daughter in her trailer so theres an extra 50lbs oh yeah and the tires were flat on that too. Pulling all that up a hill sucked! That piece of junk bike had a heck of a time staying in gear (only had 18 which was definately not enough) Needless to say that extremely short bike trip sucked. After that ordeal by the time I got to the shop I was exausted. I test rode a raleigh mojave 2.0 they had there but in the wrong frame size, and all I can say is WOW! This thing shifted like a dream, and felt as light as a feather compared to what I had just gone through. So we ordered two! I'm so excited, and can't wait till they get here.

Oh and totally off topic, I didnt know they had disc brakes on bikes! Unfortunately they were on bikes out of my price range, but how cool is that!
