Commuting - Cadillac vs. Schwinn

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I had a pleasant bicycle commute to work today on my 1973 Varsity. Not really fast, not really effortless, but silky and in control so I could enjoy the scenery in comfort.
One of my colleagues treated me to lunch today. We went to the restaurant in his big old Cadillac (He didn't have a bike). That Cadillac was one smooth ride. It sucked up the bumps like a feather bed.
I had to comment to my friend, "Man, this Cadillac rides like an old Schwinn!"

(ya, some of you guys may have my post on the oldroads-vintage lightweights forum, but I thought it would tickle some of the BikeForum.Com riders as well).

I thought about a bumper sticker for my bike, "My other bike is a Toyota". I just don't know where to hang it.
That's a good story.

I've had 4 Schwinns in my life time. I've had 0 Cadillacs. I think you insult Schwinn by comparing the two...but that's just me.

Did you know that there is a cadillac bicycle? Try this link:

There also is a Hummer bicycle, sold by GM as an accessory to the real hummer. If I had a few hundred dollars lying around I would get one.
The Cadillac bike is just an alluminum made-in-Taiwan job. If you wanted to get a knock off, Ferrari would be the one to get.

I have both a 27 yr old Cadillac and a Schwinn. Agree on the thought behind the comparison, although it'd be more on target with a classic cruiser bike. The Schwinn is a lot cheaper to run, but it doesn't have an automatic transmission so what do you expect. Both have leather seats.

Great Zounds! It is fascinating that you dug up this thread from 2003.
Ya man, if gas gets any more expensive, the resale value of an old Schwinn will be better than a Cadillac or an SUV!

The Hummer bike is a bigger turd than the H2 (as if that's possible.)
Seriuosly the Hummer bike is a POS of the highest order.
