I've searched through tons of the posts on CX racing, training, bikes and culture and I want to get connected with the local scene. I'll check out the lbs' for more info, but I'm wondering if there's anyone from Vancouver and surrounding area who can recommend a first cx race and / or wouldn't mind an intro ride with some one new to the sport?

I'm not a cross rider, but in the fall, many of them seem to congregate at La Biciletta on Broadway.
Have you checked out cycling BC's website?

Thank you so much, I will definatley check out the Seattle and Washington area races for this fall. That's not too far for a good race. I'll be making trips down for rowing regattas anyways this fall.

I've been meaning to drop by the Biciletta on Broadway, so now I'll make a point of it. Any DVD recommendations so I can get a picture of a race in my mind before entering?

Cheers for the reminder about cycling.bc.ca, too

Check out cyclocrossworld.com for some DVD's. Of the three i have only seen Transition but it will give you an idea on last season's Crank Bro's series we had down here in the states. Two of the races were in the NW (portland OR & Tacoma WA) & are returning this year. If you can make it down to one or both of those you'll witness Cross at its best on this continent.

I have checked out the local bike shops and am getting connected. I'll keep looking for people to ride with, but I'm much better off now that I've visited La Biciletta and Mighty Riders on Broadway in Vancouver. i've got a better idea of where past courses have been and what races the "season" consists of.

I'll check out the DVD's and plan schedule in a race or two (including one in the US). Thank you all again for your help.

Here are some links/videos of a race called Star Cross. It happens under the lights of Marymoor Velodrome (near Seattle) every year & is probably the biggest cyclocross party I've ever been to. There is a beer garden right in the middle of the course too so it gets pretty crazy when the Elites go off under the lights. the first link is from 03, second from 04. Hope this works,

Here is another link with some footage from the Clif Bar Grand Prix in Tacoma last year (aka, Crank Bro's GP).

Those movies are GREAT! Thank you so much. I see I've got a ton of work ahead of me practicing mounting and dismounting!

Thanks
