Hey I'm not from Maine but I just returned from vacation there. Spent most of the time hiking and climbing in Baxter. We did make a quick two day stop in Bar Harbor for a Whale watching cruise and a look at Acadia. This is the first time I have been there in any month other than September and I have to admit I expected more crowds at Acadia than I saw. Wonder if visitation is down because of 9/11? Great state, I love it. Too much winter for my taste though.

My wife is from Maine and she wants to know what area you are referring to by mid coast. She is from the Southern part of the state.

We had some major crowds here in Rockland (that's where i'm from btw) but they didn't last as long as they usually do, so maybe you're right. There are definately quite a few tourists still here though.
