BMX - do you ride an S&M frame?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Two of my friends have S&M frames. One has a Black bike(he's the richest little **** ever, the only reason he got it is becasue it was called a "Black Bike" and he got it in Chrome), and my other friend has a S&M Next Generation.
sory, but the Kink Freebird frame is the best ever. lol

There were two NG frames, the Dirtbike and the Holmes. Which one is it?
I've currently got a Stricker, and previously rode a Warpig. I'm going to be getting a Light As F*ck soon, and selling the Stricker (for a very low price) to a friend that had his bike stolen, though.
Dirtbike NG over 6 years now :)

Beringer. Love the geometry, not so sprung on the euro BB and hidden headset. Smashed a couple bearings in the BB already, the headset's holding up though.

He got the Dirtbike used from one of the older riders in my town. He got it 6 years ago, and he ended up selling it, and then someone else sold it, and then it was painted, and then sold and painted and sold, painted...for 6 years, and then my friend ended up with it again, so he sold it to my other friend for 10$!!! It was pretty cool, except he forced me to help him sand off 7 layers of paint from the frame.

OX Platinum is trick stuff. One of two air-hardened chrome moly steels I know of (Reynolds 853 being the other) that actually gets stronger at the welds instead of weaker. Supposedly the secret is in the addition of vanadium to the chromium and molybdenum in the steel alloy.

Too bad that OX Platinum isn't all that thick to begin with; True Temper and Supertherm are basically the same thing, but are cheaper and come in a better variety of thicknesses and diameters.

OX Platinum tubing was designed for road bikes when everything started going aluminum and the proponents of steel (Reynolds, True Temper, Columbus) wanted a frame that was light enough to keep up with the aluminum stuff but still retained the ride quality of steel. Given the choice I'd take Columbus over any steel on the market, but as of yet I don't think there are any BMX frame makers who use the stuff.

None on the market, but my friend Paul just built this sucker out of Columbus. Rides pretty nice, I'd say, although it's almost too light.

Nivacrome? How much does the frame weigh? I'm guessing low 4s...be pretty surprised if it was in the high 3lb range but that's not too crazy sounding with that stuff.
Is it just me, or do those welds look pretty rough? Nice looking frame though.

They're not the best welds, but considering that he's only put so much time in practicing TIG welding, it doesn't seem all that bad.
I guess he got the tubing cheap? Are you going to ride one of his "Practice" frames?

Nope. I just got a new S&M Light As F*ck, so I'm just fine and dandy with that.

Hope he paints that thing. It looks nice the way it is, but I'd paint it before it got covered in rust.

did he make a built-in seatpost clamp thingy. it looks like one to me.
**** paint. no color is the best color
CMcMahon
08-30-05, 06:38 PM
Yes, it has a integrated seatpost clamp. And, yes, it is going to be painted; as a test, he's going to weigh the frame right before and right after it gets painted, to see just how much weight a powdercoat of regular thickness adds to the frame.

Forget about paint. this is what he needs. http://cgi.ebay.com/XPs-14mm-Spinning-Bike-Pegs-Only-ones-in-the-World_W0QQitemZ7179380270QQcategoryZ106943QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

do you really think those are good, or just a stupid idea and a waste of money like those demolition pvc sleeves?
pvc sleeves are defenetly not a waste of money if its the only way to get your pegs into a skatepark

did you think i was serious? i think that is the stupidest think i've seen in weeks.
i have to admit if i could steal them or somehow get them for free, i would put them on to play around
i actually dont think they'd be a bad idea if they werent 25$

toothpick grinds on unwaxed concrete ledges. if there even are bearings in them, it would suck if the bearings in the front peg blow up during a smith grind.
it would be awesome to see the mexicans put them on their mountain bikes to transport their whole family from home to their landscaping jobs.one of them is gonna chase the driver of the bicycle and try to leap ontothe rear pegs. hopefully he will slip and somehow be injured and cannot mow any more lawns, so he most start selling Icees

lol, I didnt think you were serious, thats why i was asking if you thought those would acctualy be a good idea, say if odyessy came out with them? Then what would you think?
it proably reduce grinding through pegs...just not worth the money

OK, ive fabbed up copys of those PVC pegs with PVC that fits slightly loose over the peg, a custom bar end type stopper and some wd-40 between the peg and the PVC. made it for my freind charged him 20 bucks, works as good or better than my other freinds store bought PVC pegs.
