I say this every year...but I can't wait for book 7!! Am I the only Harry Potter fan here!!?? I've taken to listening to the book on cd in my car. My three year old loves it and asks me to put hawwy on!! She's even carting around my paperback copy of book 1 and pretends to read it.

Okay...so which was your fav? I must say 3 is still my favorite. I re-read book 5 last week and I am halfway through book 6. 5 was hard for me because I just kept thinking...quit being a jerk, Harry!! I wish there were more adults (at least in my circle) I could talk about the books with because quite frankly my babysitter is tired of me talking about it.

I like the Harry Potter books too. Rare to find a book that kids and adults can both read and enjoy.

I don't think I like them quite as much as you do though because I couldn't tell anyone what specifically happens in each book. My favorite is probably the book with the Tri-Wizard tournament in it. Although book 5 (I think) was good because it had so much of Sirius Black in it. I liked the current one a lot too because it had so much Dumbledore. Dumbledore is my favorite character, very Yoda like.

Who do you think RAB is? I couldn't think of any characters with those initials, but I have read one pretty good theory. You sound like a big fan, so you have probably heard it already.

I do like the books- they are my favorite. Out of all my book series, it's the only ones I kept when I moved.

I can wait for book 7, but only because of JK's rumblings and hints about the fate of Harry, and I don't want to read it, though I do have some suspicions of what will probably happen, given the hints in the last 3 books.

I hope it's longer and ties things up nicely, though. I've been re-reading the series, and when you go back, you see the hints and signs and stuff throughout the early books that show up in later books. I just wonder why Dumbledore was so happy that Voldemort got some of Harry's blood in order to reincarnate. There has to be something going on there.

I'm thinking 2- 3 years before the next book. Hopefully, it will be better edited, though. In their rush to get book 6 out, it looks like they definitely cut some corners (maybe that's why the book is shorter than I expected it to be, since she had an interview where she expressed her desire to create books in greater lengths as the series progressed).

I much prefer Orson Scott Card's Tales of Alvin Maker. I read HP 1, that was one too many.

The first Potter book was a little slow(aimed at eleen year olds) they get better. Card lives in Greensboro and comes down to the indy bookshop in our mall every now and then. A class guy. I liked the Ender books.
I would have to go with book five. My two favorite characters, Mad eye Moody(The one I would want to play) and Sirius. I like Lupin(The character I best fit) and Tonks as well

I do like book 3- the introduction to Sirius. But I could not decide between 3 or 4. 5 was sad and Harry was too brooding and surly.

Never had the pleasure of meeting Card, though would jump at the chance. The Ender series was great, as was the Homecoming series.

Yeah, no reveal until like the last chapter. That kind of left me scratching my head trying to figure it out for a bit.

Yeah, I opened a copy of Entertainment Weekly only to have the entire ending spoiled in 5 seconds! Man was I mad.

I opened the magazine, saw pictures from the movies, looked at the first line under one of the pictures and WAM! They had a tiny (maybe 2" x 2") blue box in the upper left corner that said "Spoiler Alert" but when I pick up a magazine I usually just flip through it so I missed it. Through the whole book I knew how it was going to end but I still enjoyed it overall.

I was stumped till the end about who the half blood prince was too. But after I read it I was like...well duh!!

So...do you think Dumbledore made a horcrux?

Alloy Addict

The half blood prince was still a bit of a mystery to me, but the magazine spoiled the other big surprise.

I don't think that Dumbledore created a horcrux because he would have to have murdered someone to do it. Plus he seemed to feel it was a very evil spell in general since it splits a soul.

Maybe he was a horcrux...

Maybe Harry is one too...

We'll see in book 7.

I've heard the "Harry is horcrux" theory. It could be, but why would Voldemort be trying to kill Harry if that were true? Unless it was an accident and Voldemort didn't know it. I will be very disappointed if Harry buys it in the end.

All I can say is, I don't think Dumbledore created a horcrux, but I have to wonder if he's really dead. Remember the whole business with the locket? It was a different locket (the RAB one) at the end -- could Snape's curse have killed the soul piece in the locket instead of Dumbledore?
And can I just add that I think Alan Rickman is just fabulous ... I can't wait to see more of him on the screen! What a great actor -- he plays Snape so believably, I really think he adds tremendously to the character of the books.

cycleprincess

I really want Dumbledore to still be alive, in one way or another. I love his character. Since the "real" Dumbledore (what's his name...the actor?) died, I kind of figured he might die in the book eventually. But there are lots of actors who could play him...I want him to come back!

Also...do you think Book 7 is it? I can't imagine her stopping with the books having so much popularity. But I'm with ya...I'll be super mad if Harry ends up dead in the end!!

Oh...and Alan Rickman so rules!! He makes that role!

well since we've blown "the big surprize ending" here's my take.
Snape was doing what he was told, by Dumbledore. Remember
Dumbledore's admonishmet to HP before they search for the Horcrux?
same thing. I think he knew what was going to happen and that was why
he did what he did to harry. Kind of like obi wan, stronger in death?
and RAB is that Susan Bone's grandmother (amelia Bones)? the judge at harry's trial in
book 5 who was so impressed with HP's patronus? mention of Voldemort
personally killing her in book 6.
Yah I liked the HP books very much. Took me a while to get into them
though.

Yes, I don't think that Dumbledore is dead in the typical sense of the word. I read the whole book knowing that he was going to be killed by Snape, so I was looking for clues.

1. Dumbledore had an affinity for Phoenix, and was head of The Order of the Phoenix. Don't forget the phoenix shaped smoke that rose from him during the funeral.
2. Dumbledore would never have begged Snape not to kill him but he might have begger him to follow orders.
3. Snape had many opportunities to harm Harry but didn't. He could have at least gotten him in trouble for using his potion's textbook, but didn't.
4. There was something else Dumbledore said, and now I am blanking out on it. I'll have to go back and look for it.

Re: RAB, some people have speculated that it might be Regulus Black, Sirius' brother. Apparently there was some mention of a unopenable locket being found in the Black family home in one of the last couple of books.

Have you ever read a book and gotten a picture in your mind of what the characters look like, then go to the movie and find that the producers had a totally different perception in mind? That did not happen to me with the first Harry Potter book. I had mental images of the characters based on Rowling's character development. The movie producers saw the characters the same way I did. I figure that is due to some pretty good writing.

I am 54 years old and still not too old to enjoy a good fantasy once in a while.

I thought RAB might be a Bones family member, but the Regulus Black is an interesting idea (wasn't he killed by Dumbledore?). So much to speculate about, and several years to wait for the definitive answer!

If I read correctly Regulus Black was killed by the death eaters?
I think he tried to join the other side?

I am rereading the books. I started rereading the day after I finished book 7. It's so interesting to go back and reread after you've read book 6.

Snape was certainly under orders to kill Dumbledore. I think this has been in the works since book 4, after the Triwizard Cup. There's a reason why Dumbledore "froze" Harry under the invisibility cloak when Malfoy came into the office... he didn't want Harry to interfere, and I think he also wanted a witness there so when he "died", other people would believe that Snape betrayed and murdered him, which would make Snape seem more loyal to Voldemort.

I think that locket is going to play an important role- I refuse to believe Dumbledore would go through all that for an incorrect locket.

Dumbledore was wearing that ring when he died too. I think that ring is going to have a role in book 7 also. It seems strange that Dumbledore would keep Voldemort's horcruxes, so I think there is some significance to all of them.

I thought Regulus was stupid (according to Sirius) and was expendable to Voldemort. Sirius' (and Regulus') mother was that much prouder of Regulus for having been true to the family cause.

Who better to discover Voldemort's secret than somebody that had been a death eater, or pretended to be a death eater? RAB's note said that he or she had discovered his secret and wanted him to know that it was RAB that had discovered it and taken the locket horcrux. RAB also said that they knew they were going to die. What's nice is that Rowling has definitely left the readers with more than one possible choice. I am very impressed by her ability to either plan all of this stuff out or go back after the fact and tie all the details together.

Man, I don't know about some of that stuff, but JK constantly interweaves new plots with her older books. I find myself heading back to the other books to find out what she's referring to. Sometimes, it's just about jinxes and stuff like that, but other times, it's about references to other people.

I know she hasn't written that seventh book yet, but I bet she knows how it's going to end. She just doesn't want to leave us hanging.

I'm willing to wait a few years, provided that we get a good book at least 1000 pages that ties up the loose ends and answers our questions.

My first thought was Black for the RAB...but I had totally forgotten about Bones. Was it just in book 5 that we heard from her? I just re-read 5 and missed that name. I remember the judge talking about how great his patronus was but didn't remember the name. I'm halfway through book 4 again, and I'm finding that I forgot a lot from a few years ago when I read it the first time! And of course I'll have to go and read the rest of them too. I'm with ya...JK is just amazingly talanted.

On the family tree in the Black household it just mentions
Regulus Black, NMI!
The locket in the cupboard was just described as a big old heavy
locket, nothing else. . .

Damn... I got addicted to Harry Potter. I read all the books in one month :(

Although book 6 had a depressing ending, I must say that it made me admire Snape even more (yes, he's my favorite character). I guess it's mostly out of pity and his cunning skills with potions... and he's pretty witty :P

For some reason, I found myself more sad about Cedric Diggory's death in book 4 than any of the other deaths (yes, even Dumbledore). In my opinion, it also seemed like Dumbledore gave Snape the order to kill him in order to spare Draco's life. Well, I'm going to re-read all the books before book 7 comes out. I can't wait... I suppose I have no choice, tho :P

Who's gonna see the movie?! It comes out a day before my birthday!!

lol, I did that to my gf because I felt like being an ass. She was kinda pissy with me until we had dinner that night :P I mean, crap... I travelled 50 miles south just to hang out with her and her best friend in a freakin' line @ borders. Not to mention, I lost her in the store for about an hour. BTW, she dressed up as Rita Skeeter (rofl).

It was worth it! I enjoyed being the spoiler at the time!! BUT... once I got into the books (I never really thought I would :(), it sucked knowing the spoilers. Eh.

If I ever dress up as an HP character, it'd have to be Snape!

Or maybe Luna Lovegood. I'm just a weirdo like that.

I liked book 4 the best.I think that Dumbledore has a horux.there is no way that he would have allowed himself to be killed and not be able to help Harry with Voldamort.Snape is an a$$,always has been.I have yet to see any redeeming qualitys about him.I do feel the headmaster did what he did to save Snape to get him out of the promis that was made.
I also think that Draco is a spineless twit.I also think that Hagrid has more power and knowledge than ANYONE will give him credit for.I think that the Order of the Pheonix will bring dumbledore back.
Harry might be a horux for Vol.the two are very tightly bound together and everyone has done what they could to protect him.

Is it just me or do all the actors playing the kid characters in the movie look like they're trying to bring back 60's and 70's hairstyles and clothes?

HP might be a horcrux for Voldy. I'm wondering if RAB might mean Regululs, but that someone else stole the locket and pinned it on Regulus. Probably not Dumbledore, but whoever it was, it would have to be someone powerful enough to get past the enchantments. Maybe Snape? Snape was under the unbreakable vow so he had to kill Dumbledore or he'd die and I think Dumbledore knew that. If it was Regulus, he might've been keeping to family tradition by stealing the horcrux from Voldy since Voldy isn't a pure blood. Anyways, HP has no one to rely on except Ron and Hermione now so they'll get him to the fight and HP'll do him in or die.
