Heperia-More than a year after a bicyclist was stuck and killed by a pickup truck, deputies arrested a man on suspicion of felony hit and run, officals said Friday.
Steven Loescher, 28 of Hesperia, was arrested Thursday in connection with the April 13, 2004 collision in which bicyclist Robert Vincent, 60 was stuck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck, according to sheriff's officials. The accident occurred at 9:30 p.m. at I Avenue and Buckthorn Road in Hesperia.
Loescher was arrested at his home in the 8500 block of C Avenue in Hesperia and booked into the Victor Valley Jail.

I remember when this guy got hit, his family said that he had been hit about 35 years ago and that every time he went for a ride and did not get hit he felt lucky. Police had also said when the accident occurred that it looked as if he had served into the traffic.

The wheels of justice move, albeit a bit slowly..

It's good that they caught him. People are doing way too much to riders, and get away with it.

Even though they said the guy possibly swerved into traffic, it's good that they pursued this as a hit and run.

The cops always say the cyclist swerved into traffic. The fact is that if you are anywhere other than on the shoulder they consider it the cyclists fault. What happened to getting hit from behind being the fault of the persone in the trailing vehicle? Christ these people pass you with inches to spare and then when someone finially hits a cyclist it's like we have no credability. I'm still not sure why we decided that the people who inforce the laws don't even need to go to college. Hope they nail this guy.

What does going to college have to do with intelligence? If they have a good screening program, they'll get officers with smarts and common sense.

Unless every station trains and retrains and retrains officers in the city codes that they don't often come across, no amount of college education will suffice when a rarely enforced law is broken. A Police Officer is not a high paying job. One of the main reasons to even go to college is so that when you're done, you can make more money and have more opportunities than if you didn't. That's why the detectives and forensics teams are usually college graduates and the 'beat cops' are just your run-of-the-mill folks.

Most traffic cops can tell you the whole book of laws pertaining to traffic violations in their city. Ask them about how to enforce a possible parking violation? They'll probably look at you like a deer in headlights. Vice versa that to a Parking Enforcement officer... they won't know about the traffic violations, but they'll know that unless you're in your car when that meter runs out, you're screwed.

Glad they caught the guy (well, I hope it's the right guy).

NYC cops don't do so badly (http://www.nypd2.org/html/recruit/salary.html). $60K + overtime and good benefits ater 5.5 years doesn't sound so bad considering you could start working for the force at 20 years of age (18 + 2 years of collge). BTW, they require either 60 credits of college or some military service. Anyhow, expecting cops to not know the law because they've been at the job a while seems completely stupid and backwards. If I don't keep up with the tech and finance worlds, I lose my job. :rolleyes:
