I just bought a 2005 stumpjumper. When I transport this bike on my rear bike rack and it starts to rain outside, is this okay? Or should I be covering the bikes up w/ plastic? Also, if I get caught riding out in the rain, what are some preventive steps to keep my bike from rusting, being damaged, etc...

Thanks in advance for the advice!

IT should be fine. Tonnes of us do it out here. Its part of life.

Just clean and relube the chain. You might loose a lot of oil.

Yea I have been caught in the rain lately alot! Mostly transporting my bike in the back of my truck. I clean and lube my chain almost every ride. I noticed some new rust on my chain. I dont think there is much u can do.. I guess when it gets really bad, just buy a new chain.. lol

I do adventure races with mine and have had it totaly submerged in deep creeks before. No harm, no foul. Check your lube when you get out of the water or get home. You drive your car in the rain don't you?

As for me, my wife says, "You won't melt, but you might float!"
