Introductions - Hello from Vermont

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi everyone --
I discovered BikeForums less than a week ago, but it's full of tons of helpful people and valuable info! I decided to finally stop lurking and register! I bike in some beautiful places here in VT (that little state in New England), and I'm considering starting to bike-commute to school ( it's about 18 mi each way... ).
Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself to the BikeForums community! :D

Welcome. I was in Vermont in the early 90's.. Stayed about Barre for a few days on way to Quebec City. You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
Adventure Cycling offers a tour of Vermont each year. From what I hear, it is very difficult cycling through the Green Mountains. Tough climbs. Feedback I got, can be as steep as some parts of the Rockies.
How is Vermont for road vs. dirt biking. Many bike paths?. That would be a state I would really like to tour..

Welcome to the forum! I was in your fantastic state for the very Adventure Cycliing tour of Vermont that started in Burlington four years ago. Rode for a week north towards the Canadian border and then back down south and back to Burlington. Rode the Green Mountains and they are tough climbs but great downhills too. You are lucky to live in such a great state. I know that there are lots of cyclists both Road and Mountain in your state. Get out there and ride before the snow flies:)
HI And welcome. I guess it's been nearly 30 years since I visited Vermont. Love that New England are, but am real happy in the desert of southern AZ too.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
There are a lot of beautiful country roads around here, both paved and unpaved. The only problem is Vermont winters... I'll have to start reading the Winter Biking forum!
An organization called Lake Champlain Bikeways (champlainbikeways.org (http://www.champlainbikeways.org)) has put together some bike loops and a longer trail along back roads (mostly paved).
In terms of bike paths, Burlington has a beautiful 7.5 mile bike path next to the Lake Champlain waterfront.
I learned recently that at the end of the Burlington bike path there a bike ferry (yes, just for bikes) that crosses the Winooski River to a 4.5 mile former rail causeway that goes across the middle of Malletts Bay... it looks beautiful -- I'll have to check it out before the season's over :p
There's a lot to explore on bike in VT! If you want to, come on up and do some scenic bike riding... you deserve a vacation :D :D :D
