I just did my first century yesterday 6hrs 4 minutes ! How does this compare with other rides ?
Actually, it was slightly longer than a century: 173km in 5hours 31 minutes. That's about 108 miles for those of you still in the ice age;)

Congrats. Times vary considerably with the terrain so it is difficult to compare, but sounds like you did great!!

Depends on the route, the terrain and the group. In a large, fast, disciplined group, you can do a century in less that 5 hours fairly easily. In a small group, 5:30-6:30 is much more realistic. And I'm talking rolling time here.

Congratulations! :) How did you train for it, anything special? Were you on a road-racing bike? How did you feel at the end?
The only organized century I've done was the somewhat-hilly 1995 Autumn Century in Spokane. It was "epic," to say the least. I ended up doing a solo break for what seemed like half an hour, in a hilly area where the pack couldn't chase me down in paceline mode, and that was just the beginning of the fun! :D Ended up at 4:56 and felt like dying on the spot... ;)
Good job!
My best - actually the only one I have ever timed was about 2 months ago, solo, and on a single speed. The course was out and back. I had a tailwind all the way out, and it subsided for the 50 miles back - so the conditions could not have been better. I managed about 4hr 50 min.

No specific training I just ride, ride, ride every minute I can before work, to work after work weekends ! I have ridden about 1500 km since April, as much as I could without becoming a single man again if ya know what I mean ! My century was in good conditions with a little wind along a rolling terrain route, a challenging but rewarding ride ! I only rode 161 km (or 101 miles) so you can tell what my goal was....I was tired for sure !
