I'm back. Moved to the other side of the planet. From Okinawa, Japan to Wakulla County, Florida. One new, used car and five new bikes, a Specialized Allez Elite and an Electra Townie3 for me. A Cannondale Comfort for the wife, a Schwinn Mesa GS for the son and a Schwinn Sting-Ray and Burley Solo Trailer for the little one. This in addition to the three bikes we already had and my Burley Utility Trailer. Got rid of my old MTB. I wanted to get them road bikes too, but they weren't interested. These are what they wanted.
New commutes. One is to a place I like to fish. Even though it's 7.3 miles I leave the Allez at home and tow the utility trailer with my gear on it with the Townie. 2.3 miles of pavement then the rest is sand road mostly through the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge. The Allez doesn't like sand roads, but it's just going to have to get used to it because now I live on one. Another regular commute is all pavement into the nearest small town, 5 miles to town, a little further to the hardware store and the grocery store. Another regular commute is almost exactly 10 miles with a little bit of sand road on both ends. The Allez likes that route, even though the last time we did it, it was in the early morning darkness and we almost T-boned a raccoon and a deer at different times.
New bagging/mulching/side discharge lawn mower. New lesson. The utility trailer with my tool box, a few yard tools, a 6.75 HP lawn mower and an extra gallon of gas on it is just too heavy to realistically tow.
I road the Townie to go fishing yesterday. Second time in a row I've done that and seen a rattlesnake in the sand road on the way back. This one was a big, fat, 5 footer stretched most of the way across the road. I just built up a good head of steam and blew by the head end since he was stretched out. Beautiful markings, he had no apparent reaction to a bike and trailer blowing by. Must see a lot of that. ;o)
