I went up to Downieville this weekend and rode the Downieville Downhill. I went with a friend, and we did two runs down the mountain. For the first run, I rode my hardtail and for the second run, I rode the Stumpjumper FSR Expert Disc (http://www.specialized.com/bc/SBCEquipPopup.jsp?equipimage=/OA_MEDIA/2005/bikes/05StumpjumperFSRExpert120_Blk_l.jpg&equipmodel=05%20Stumpjumper%20FSR%20Expert%20Disc%20120) that he rented.

Wow! That thing soaked up rocks and bumps so I felt like I was floating. It was awesome, I could go SOOO fast on that bike. The only thing I didn't like was that the bottom bracket seemed a bit low. I was hitting the pedals in palces I wouldn't have on my hardtail.

But damn, that was a fun trail, and even more fun on a full-suspension bike. We did34 miles of downhill, and I completely wore out my hands from gripping and braking. My fingers are sore today. I crashed once, scraped my knee a bit and bruised my arm, but I'll be fine in a few days. The trail is awesome, I want to go ride it again.

Well, I know what you mean. I want my next bike to be a fs bike too, but as of now, I can't afford it.

You will have to relearn how to pedal and use your pedals. Suspension when it dips drops the bb down. It may feel low, but I doubt it is. (in face with that bike it is high compared to dh bikes)

My next bike will be full suspension, but it won't be in a few years time or when i have the money. I can't see myself with another hardtail. I've decided to use my hardtail for light off road and road riding and the fs for more aggressive riding on the trails.

ya and you need to relearn more then pedaling. jumping, manuals, clearing objects are all much different then with a hardtail. if you thought you hit alot with that bike you should try mine, i think my BB is 12 maybe 13 inches high. i hit my pedals on lots of stuff, its hard not too when the trail i ride on you have to pedal up a hill every now and again and theres roots everywhere.

You have a dh bike. Your bb is going to be lower (hopefully) than his enduro.

I just got an FS about a month ago. Although I'm enjoying the downhills more what I really like is the control I have on the uphills. My ht is still faster on fireroad and smooth trails but around here we have a lot of rocks and roots.
