Completed my first solo race on saturday. It was a 9 hour race. Well, my back and arms, and but are still sore.... my brand new bike sure held up nice(Norco EXC 2.0HT). Trails got pretty crazy by the end, lots of roots exposed making some one the quick decent/switchbacks pretty hairy. Overall a nice race, especially the medals, they were pez dispencers, glued to medal ribbons, best part about them is that they actually had candy in them.

Congrats on the race! That's a pretty long one for the first. I've done a 100 miler that was both on and off road and a 60 miler that was almost all single track. No medals for me.

Ya, it was all single track. I think the only reason I could finish is that I am training for an ironman, so I have alot of longdistance cycling undermy belt, but all on the road. My back is killing me, all the bumps and crap.

Like I said, by the end of the race, there were little stumps all over the middle of the trail, little roots, turned into big roots, it was neat, every lap was like a slightly different course.

I was riding the orienteering course of an adventure race that I'm sponsoring about a month and a half ago. The trails were very rocky and bumpy. Both the race organizer and course designer were with me on FS bikes. I was on my old hardtail. It basically wore my butt out. Two weeks later I got a Giant NRS and.....aaaahhhhhhhhh, much better. I now highly recommend a good FS for the long races.

Congratulations for the second place.

Just wondering, how many times did you stop, and for how long?

9 hours is way off my league. I can't pass 4 hours, and can go only 2 hours non-stop.

Nice. I'm working up to a 12 hour race that's in Gallup, NM in the early spring. I figure I've got the entire winter to train and as long as we don't get 150% of normal in snow like last winter, I'll be able to take advantage of the time.
