I just picked up my new 2006 Trek XO-1 last week. I've put in a few hours on it and the bike is fantastic! Coming from a mountain biking background, I'm super-impressed with the speed and fun that this bike gives.

The quality of workmanship and welds is very very nice. I had narrowed my decision to the Redline Conquest and the Trek XO-1, and chose the Trek because the frame and many of the Bontrager components were made in the USA. Before anyone chimes in to tell me that China-made goods are just as good - I'm sure you are correct. However, my USA-made decision has more to do with supporting US workers and the companies that employ them, not the quality of the goods. The Redline has a big "MADE IN CHINA" sticker on the head tube. Trek wins. And I am ok paying the extra few dollars to support American workers and the US economy.

I was doing some searching before ordering and couldn't find any info on '06 specs as compared to '05. Trek did tell me that there would be no spec changes from '05, but that is in fact not 100% accurate. So this post for those that might be looking at the 06 and want the scoop!

--the 2006 DOES NOT come with pedals as the '05 did (05 was spec'd with Shimano 505 spd).

--the 2006 DOES come with the Bontrager Select rims, and Bontrager sealed hubs, as pictured on the Trek site. low spoke count, light weight, and I'll admidt - they look cool!

--the 2006 DOES come with Cane Creek Crosstop inline/bar top levers. I couldn't find these on old specs or locate them in any product photos for the '05 bikes. My guess is that these were added, and pedals dropped, as the cost would be pretty similar.

--the 2006 list price is UNCHANGED from 2005.

I'll post a followup once I've had some more hours on the bike. Again - my initial impressions is that its light, strong and fun as hell to ride!

I'll take a couple pics of my 2006 tonight if there are none up yet by then.

The only other difference I found out between the 06 and 05 is that the 06 has a lighter alum fork (I was told).

Anyways, I love the bike.. have only put on about 60 km so far but the mileage will come.

I'll take some pics as well. This bike looks evil, in a good way. I feel like a bad ass when i ride it.

What components does it come with? When my GF was lookin to buy a cross bike last year (a 2004 model I think) we were turned off by the sora components. So she ended up getting a Poprad.

I just got a used 2000 X0-1 frame to build up for this year and I too am impressed with it. It rides like a tank and handles itself very well.

The '05's were re-spec'd from previous years - the Sora stuff is gone. I think they made a real effort to make this a race-able bike.

They now have 105 derailers and shifters. Avid Shorty brakes. Bontrager supplies just about all the rest. The specs on the Trek site are correct on all components for the '06, except what I noted in my first post.

Lil help?

Trying to upload some pics but the ones I took are just over 200KB and it says the max file size I can upload is 100KB? I only took them at 640x480.

200 kb is big. can you do a "save for web" in your imaging software? even tho yer pics are 640x480, the resolution may be high -- they need to be 72 dpi for the web.

Per the URL this should be the 2006 XO-1:

You sure you weren't supposed to get pedals? Or maybe this is the '05 in the 2006 section?

Ok got it. Pics as requested:

(Edit): Btw, the cheap pedals were just given to me by the store until I can get some decent pedals and shoes. The bike did not come with any.

did not come with pedals. the LBS was kind enough to put a set of Shimano 525 on at no charge -I didn't even have to ask!).

you think they would've changed the color since it's the same as the 2005

Yea it seemed like after 2000 they went to a more commuter style product and now they are going back to race specs. Probably because of the rise in cyclocross interest in the States over the last few years.

The 2005's came with the Cane Creek chicken levers and the pedals.I put fenders on mine and a road cassette along with 23's for the road and it's a blast. The anodized black looks even better when it's dirty.
