Hey I just found out about cyclocross a couple days ago and i was wondering if this is the right bike for me. Currently, I have a Trek 4100 hybrid bike and I really want to get a road bike. However, I would like this road bike to be able to be light weight and also able to handle rough dirt trails Is this the right bike for me? If you think it is, please leave a post with a suggestion of which bike I should choose and if possible, add a like of the picture of the bike. Also I am only looking for an entry level cyclocross bike so my price range is from 200-300 or whatever the cost. As I said before, Im a noobie to cyclocross.

Thanks
-Phil

A CX is a very good choice for what you're looking to do. There are actually quite a few threads in the Cyclocross forums with people wanting to also know if a CX bike is the right choice for them, so search for those threads first and look 'em over. You might just find the info you're looking for.

As far as price range, 200-300 nor get you anywhere. Decent CX bikes like the Kona Jake start at around $800 and many of the others like the Cannondale Cyclocross, Bianchi Axis, and Trek XO-1 begin at around $1200.

If you wanna see some cross action, check out cyclingnews.com and grahamwatson.com, and also do a google search for cyclocross as well as the websites for bike manufactureres like Cannondale, Bianchi, Trek, fuji, and Kona.

200-300 likely wouldn't even get you a decent used entry level CX unless the seller is a friend of yours. The Kona Jake jpearl mentioned is likely one of the best well known values for entry level CX. TRy for last years model below list or shop craiglist/ebay for a used but in good condition CX ride to avoid paying list price. Once you've decided it's something you like you'll likely upgrade and you'll know then what you'd like in a CX bike.
