Mountain Biking - V brakes with canti brake levers

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Help. I have a Cannondale SE 2000 with the force forty brakes and would like to upgrade to V brakes. My question is; can I use my XT canti levers with the V brake system? I don't really want to spend more money on a new shifter(7 spd) brake combo. I just bought these ones! It seems that sepatate 7 spd rapid fire LX or XT are impossible to find. Any help would be appreciated.

You can use them if you get a "trave agent" adapter, but at the cost of the adapter and the crappy feeling it gives the V brakes, you are better off buying new levers... Tektro levers are fine and they are cheap... with a little skill you can usually seperate an integrated lever/shifter setup.

You can use them, but they pull through less cable than V brake levers, and so you have to set up the brake pads very close to the rim. I think someone told me it made the brakes more powerful, due to the leverage or something.

I've always heard it's a good way to tear some **** up, but I've never tried it.:) I'm sure you could unload your lever/pod combo and find some used(maybe NOS) on Ebay.
