Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i'm a newbie and i have been squeezing every ounce of speed out of my old borowed comfort bike and i have to get a real road bike. i am under a pretty good budget though. i've been looking at the Giant OCR 3 and the Trek 1000, and also have been told about fuji. The trek and Giant are at my LBS and i'm gonna test drive them pretty soon. Does aany one have any thought/opinions about these bikes? or can anyone recomend a better bike for under 500-600$
thanks, ed

I can't comment on the Trek or Fuji but Giant make very good bikes. I have had one for 6 years without a single problem. The OCR3 would be a good place to start for a limited budget.

If you can wait and save some extra the OCR1 would be a better buy for someone who is thinking about sticking with road riding as it has a Shimano 105 group, lighter more durable.

Whatever you buy it will be considerably quicker than the comfort bike.

CHEERS.

Ed, welcome to BikeForums.

How many bike shops have you been to?

Since you are a newbie I'm guessing you're looking for a good "entry level" bike.
There are several other good brands to consider (Cannondale, Specialized, Jamis, LeMond, Raleigh, K2, KHS, etc.).

I'm sure I missed one or two that others will mention.

Good luck and make sure the new bike FITS.
