I experience some discomfort at the back of the nose, only when I'm cycling, never at any other time or in any other activities.
Anyone can tell me what is going on?

no idea. never had that problem.
i guess it could be something with breathing and/or your nose getting really dry from heavy breathing and lots of airflow.
do you have the problem also when running?
i guess it could also be something with vibration...
or maybe because when you ride your nose is more downward angled than "normal" or when running or something... maybe fluids or something flow down into your nose when you ride???
I sometimes have that problem, I solved it by chewing gum. I always chew 2 pieces of Trident Bubblegum on a bike ride. When the gum starts to get too hard, I swallow it (yes, I am serious) and I chew a new piece. I keep a pack of gum in my bag.
I am guessing that the gum keeps the mouth loaded with plenty of saliva which keeps the old whistle wet. I hate when I forget it, because I use up water faster. I have asthma so it is important to keep the mouth and throat nice and moist. Hope this helps.
By the way for those of you who can't believe I swallow my gum, I also swallow cherry pits and watermelon seeds. I would much rather swallow them, then be rude and spit them out. Who doesn't hate stepping in gum!!!!!???? Believe me, they do not get stuck in your appendix, they come out just like everything else!:D

LOL i did a small report for bio class last year on gum. The truth is that when you swallow it, it does not stay in your system for 7 years like all mother live to tell there children. It will come out with ina week. They were able to tell this by using gum that had a small trace of a chemical that would let the doctors see it with a ultra-sound machine. If it is a small peice it comes out wihtin 24 hours and a large peice (2 sticks of Wrigleys ro some thing like that) will take about 6 days to fully come out.
As for the real topic, I have found that gum helps but make sure to have gum that is not to minty if the air is cool. The Sorbital and mannitol (aka. hydroxy hexane) found in most sugar free gums and will make it harder to breath.

You might be suffering to some very minor allergy/irritation in your nose. Debri or dust along with the dryness assosciated with breathing heavily would also contribute. Try the gum, it seems to work for the others.

The reason gum helps with some nasal/sinus problems is that the motion of chewing helps keep the sinus passages open and draining, so the pressure in your head equalizes....it is supposed to help with seasickness, carsickness, and some other problems.

Yeah..probably getting dry. Also, do get any post nasal drip? You'd think that would keep it from getting dry, but usually it just irritates. Physical activity raises adrenaline...rushes of adrenaline open sinuses, then all the trapped gook runs out. Isn't this pleasant?? :D I've had serious sinus/allergy problems for 16 years now so I'm all up on the 'gook' info. Definitely try the gum thing, and even better, drink more water if possible. Not just before/during/after the ride, but all the time.
