View Full Version : March of the Penguins
What a great movie! The cinematography was excellent with some really amazing shots! How they did it in sub-zero weather is a mystery to me. It is a documentary, but is really a beautiful story that follows the Emperor penguins through mating season. It literally had me smiling the whole time (well, except for the few sad parts) in awe of these creatures. Oh, and Morgan Freeman narrating is absolutely perfect. I really enjoyed this and recommend it for a great matinee special.

Anyone else see it?

Thanks for the review. My wife is working on her Marine Bio degree. She took Coastal Ornothology (sp). Basically Coastal bird watching, and it bit her like a bug. She bird watches when driving even! I have been dreading going, but seems like I might survive it.

And now for an unbiased review. It puts every other movie ever made to shame.

It would be nice if I could find a place nearby that is playing that.

Saw March of the Penguins yesterday. It is simply excellent.
I recommend against matinees though, unless you are taking children along.

I'll second that. I had to ensure some bratty little kid yapping through the whole thing and kicking my seat. I eventually moved to another seat to watch the ending.
Great movie tho'. :D

You mean I could go to the movies without kids
Just the wife and I.
movie tickets 2 x $8 = $16
sitter 3 kids x 3-4hrs (Travel+diner+movie) about $30
Diner sit down $20 minimum
Time without kids priceless
Still 3Kids + 2adults cheap matinee $1.50 each

The most boring peice of sh*t movie that I've ever seen. I went into the movie liking penguins and came out never wanting to see another penguin. The miracle of penguins is nothing in comparision to the mircacle that someone can stay awake through that whole movie. I want my money back. That crap belongs on tv not on the big screen. Those lame ass paralels between penguins and humans made me sick. Penguins don't love; They f**k and lay eggs. The only thing I got out of that movie is that penguins live in the ****tiest place on earth and that the animals that died off there were lucky.

Wench.
Main Entry: 1wench

Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English wenche, short for wenchel child, from Old English wencel; akin to Old High German wankOn to totter, waver and probably to Old High German winchan to stagger -- more at WINK
1 a : a young woman : GIRL b : a female servant
2 : a lewd woman : PROSTITUTE
Which of these am I? Either way, I don't think it makes that horrible movie any better.

You are, of course, entitled to your bluntly stated opinion. There is no need for anyone to resort to calling you names. I'm sure that there are even some people who would agree with you. It should just be noted that you are outside the mainstream on this one.
I will give you this, the narration is a bit romantic. It doesn't change the fact that what the penguins do to ensure the survival of thier kind is amazing. The movie is touching, amusing, and beautifully photographed. It isn't an axtion packed CGI S/FX extravaganza. And that is a good thing.

That is a feature of how crappy majority opinion is. Who the hell came up with majority rules? Frequently, the majority calls for the more horific things imaginiable! The average person is an idiot! The average film critic is an idiot!
Although, one major film critic got it right (one whose opinion I don't normaly agree with.)
"This has the look and feel of a top-notch special on cable, but not a feature film. I can’t recommend that viewers spend nine or ten bucks on something that will play perfectly well eventually on TV."

I saw it last night and it was definitelly a good movie. And Richard Roeper, EBERT & ROEPER is an idiot for saying it will play well on tv. I appreciated it most for the photography which was outstanding and you cannot watch that on a small box the same way. I can't wait for the attack of the penguins :D

I’ll agree that the penguins’ behavior has nothing to do with love (at least in the sense that humans understand that term) and everything to do with survival in an incredibly hostile environment.
I can’t think of a better nature documentary… beautifully shot… and a well-told story.
Has anyone seen the (original) French version?
