Thanks to those who responded to my first two posts requesting input on an entry level road bike. After researching what seemed like endless information and visitng and talking with people at several LBS, I bought a new 2002 Trek 1000T. I am very happy with and very excited about my new purchase. Even though several people recommended spending the extra money for better components, it really stretched my available budget to spend as much as I did. Especially considering all the accesories I need to buy. I really think it will be plenty of bike for me for a year or two.

I love this site and look forward to reading all the information available, as well as getting advice and help from other members.

Thanks Again,

Bill

Bill you got a nice bike.
Just curious, where did you get your Trek? Bicycles Unlimited? Nice folks there. :)

I got my bike at Bike Center in Stockbridge. They had my size in stock for $540 for a 2002. Bicycles Unlimited would have had to order me one and they wanted $630, it would have been a 2003. Bike Center offers a 60-90 day tune-up, free lifetime brake and gear adjustments, and a $20 discount off tune-ups on their bikes as well. I will probably accessory shop at Bikes Unlimited because it is closer to home. However, the people at Bike Cenetr a really nice and it is not much out of my way when coming home from work.

I am just starting to ride and am very much out of shape, so i will probably ease into any group rides.

hehe, accessories killed me. You think you're done spending money once you have your new bike, but nooooooh...there's plenty more you'll "need"

Don't worry too much about the components; just enjoy riding your new bike. In a year or two as you gain experience and knowledge you will have a better idea what components you really want. You can then make an informed decision whether to upgrade what you have a little at a time or buy a new bike with what you want.

Enjoy your new bike. I am sure it is really great and you will enjoy it for a long time. I have found that there is always a bigger and shinier apple in the market place but the important thing is that you like what you have.
