Mountain Biking - rocky mountain slayer bikes any good?

i am thinking of geting rocky mountain slayer 50 fs bike. has anyone experience with them?

If you want simple old school geometry. look no further than a SC Bullit or Heckler

The old ones were a good standard and in fact the first fr bikes made. (by name not really function)

The new ones are so entirely different that no one in the world except the building can say much about them. I know this much they are fugly.

I have seen this bike in person, even talked in person with the engineer. And got to give er a little test spin for a bit. (I was at the Rocky factory 2 weeks ago.) Anyways.. those pics don't do anything for that bike. Trust me, it looks WAY better in person than it does in those pics.

I was never a huge rocky fan, but the past two years, they have started to impress me! They were notorious (spelling?) for breaking but the RMX has not had one rear end warrantied since they went to the RMX design over the RM design. The Slayer's new suspension feels really darn nice! Actually better than the old one even! It's supple at the begining of the stroke and progresses nicely at the end of the stroke.

The rear swing arm was designed to have most of the weight close to the shock so it is easily activated... less weight out at the end mean less weight to have to get moving! Also having that linkage setup the way it is makes everything stiffer.. and there was some other advantage to it, crap can't remember. Also the placement of the shock is super low to keep the weight down low for great cornering. If you look at it, the linkage is actually similar to the RMX suspension, it's just flipped, I think it was so it's much more progressive this way.. darn, I don't remember what he had said, and I don't feel like looking at the degin long enough to figure it out today, cause I want to go ride!!! HAHA...

Oh and if you want more info on it I can give more details on some other aspects of the design, if you guys want.. but that's a lot of typing.

go ahead and tell us something more, btw were you talking about those pictures from begining of the thread or of 2005 slayer model?

SLC was referring to the 2006...the new pics. Has nothing to do with the old slayer. The design and function are entirely different.

try sending "nathank" a PM. he used to ride a slayer and seemed to really like it. he might be able to answer your question about how it rides and stuff. he doesn't post here much anymore, but he probably still checks from time to time, lurknig in the shadows.
