Well, I once was hit in the shoulder by a bottle rocket. Hmmm, it burned a bit and I don't recommend the experience.

one time on a quiet nite ride, an uncoming car thought it would be funny to hit the gas and aim right for me while honking his horn during the charge. my heart almost stopped and I thought i was going to die before he turned away only a few feet in front of me. I'm hardly ever angry about anything, but this time I felt a rage of anger so intense i swore i'd go out and buy a BB pistol so i could at least fight back at least a little if something like that happened again. we'll that was 5 years ago and i still haven't bought the BB pistol.

while riding in a stp(seattle to portland ride ) i did get shot with a bb gun, traffic was slow and i found a police to finish the chase, uninjured but just mad.
the count or bike trails can be bad as well if you have skunks in your area.

Boston creme doughnut off of my Camelbak. Another time something else(didn't see it) was pitched at me, went through the frame and smashed my inner calf /shin area above the ankle on my right leg. It felt like maybe a D-cell battery. Also, insults and interesting looks.

Haven't had anything thrown at me, but a couple weeks ago a car pulled up really close. I didn't think anything of it because cars come close all the time. But this one slowed up right as it got even with me, so my heart jumped a beat. As I looked over, I felt something touch me. The drunk chic in the passenger seat had grabbed a entire handful of my ass and squeezed. Then she giggled and they took off. Not sure how to take that...

Ya know, I've never had anything thrown at me while riding. And I can't imagine how scary it is to have something -- especially as dangerous as a glass bottle -- thrown at me.

I had a beer bottle broken clean over my helmet. Crazy azz thing was I was on a lesuire path, not on the road!

My neighbor threw a rake at me. I knew she was going to do it, and I managed to catch it, and I still have it. She's been "moved" to a more supervised enviroment.

I usually ride the trails so that happens very little, but once (first time I ever rode since I was a kid...renting bike with "idea" of getting one at the time) while riding the Pinellas trail I saw a firecracker (just a little bobcat type) "pop" right in front of me.

Luckily, I'm not the skiddish type, so didn't even slow down. I looked from the side it came and saw 3 kids (probably around 12 years old) behind a wooden fence (saw them through cracks). And I heard one of them mutter, "Oh sh1+....he saw us. Let's get outta here.".

Nothing thrown at me but sometimes a car (this really urks me)...comes up behind me and honks their horn as they are passing. I am not swaying, am on the far side of right lane, minding my own business and that horn sounds. They do on fun so.....as soon as I know they can see me in their rear view mirror, I give them the finger.... :)

that would be a very bad idea. not only is a bb pistol useless, the driver could have a real gun and decide to shoot back.

I was hit by a large green citrus fruit, I think grapefruit, thrown from a speeding car. It is no joke. It hit me square in the back and almost knocked me off the bike. It knocked the wind out of me. The fruit exploded I could see the thick rind and pulp scatter. The lucky thing for me was that it hit my backpack with my thick chemistry book in it but it still stung. A head strike could kill the cyclist. Many many times in Florida I've heard the car accelerating and seen the beer bottle or can or orange fly by but only that one time have been hit. I don't know why car people aren't prosecuted when they assault cyclists. When I reported a strike once to the Alexandria VA. police they just shrugged it off and asked "What were you doing riding a bike anyway?" as though I'm partly responsible just for being on a bike.

Something. I don't know what it was cuz I didn't wait around to see or better said, circle back to look for it. I was in the right lane going through a recently-turned-green light when this car comes up behind me and starts honking like crazy. Well, there was nowhere to go but straight ahead. (I'm not a great curb jumper.) .. and I had no reason not to proceed. Sure enough when he eventually got to the left of me, I felt something hit the small of my back. I don't know what it was. He turned left soon after. I was just relieved he didn't harass me more... I also didn't have a chance to catch the license plate. After he hit me, he sped off and then turned left.

Coffee (hit)
Full thirst-buster (miss)
Change (hit)
Oranges (1 hit & 2 misses)
Full gallon of milk (miss, thank God. That one was head on, they were going about 40mph and I was at a good clip too. That would have taken me out.)
Empty Wild Turkey bottle (miss. At least the behavior in this case was explainable, the bottle was empty)
Golf ball. I think that's what it was? (miss)

love the people that run up behind you and blow thier horns at you as they pass you safely. It is still nice here and everyone has their windows open, so I am actually thinking about getting one of those bottled air horns and blow it at them threw thir windows when they do this to me. Lets see if I can scare the crap out of them for a change.

No target, though I guess I may as well have  . I've just spent a good deal of my time on two wheels :) . The gallon of milk and the coffee incedents both happened back when I was a BMX grommet. The Wild Turkey bottle and one of the orange attacks (a miss) are the most recent, they both happened this year.

When I was in 11th grade, I was riding home from band practice at about 9:00pm. I was on the shoulder of a major neighborhood road. Out of the blue, I heard the car behind me and felt the impact on my left butt cheek. It knocked me off the bike and into the bushes. I got right up, picked up my pride and checked the bike. No breaks so I rode home. When I got there and took my shorts off, I had a PERFECT hand print bruise. If there were only fingerprints..... I think of that often now, and make sure to give plenty of room so the knuckleheads don't bother. ESPECIALLY on the tandem, if something like that ever happened to my wife, first, she'd kill me, then never ride with me again.

I got deliberately hit by a car side mirror on my butt cheek. That was after I had just started cycling, my comfort bike handlebars were set "reach for the sky" high, so the mirror hit me and missed them. I still marvel that nothing else touched, that car must have been millimetres away.

Another time I was cycling home in the dark on a bike path at full clip when an owl hit me square in the face. I veered all over the path until I regained control. Made my glasses greasy so I had to stop and clean them.

We had an elderly patient come in our office once claiming to have been struck on the head by "a dead stiff possum." This being Tennessee she was not actually biking, but was riding in the back of a pickup truck while seated in a lawn chair. They were cruising a place called Cades Cove hillbilly style. Couple of kids thought it would be funny to throw some roadkill into the passing truck and they hit poor Granny on the bean.

those guys were actually leaning out to smack kids on the back of the head. but yeah, it's a funny video.

another amusing one floating around is of some morons driving around shooting cyclists and pedestrians with a paintball gun - the video ends when the siren goes off, and the camera turns to see the cruiser behind them...

Once, I felt something glance off my haunch and it was one of those AOL CD roms you get for free. I think someone threw it from a car going the other way.

A somewhat carefully placed/thrown partially full 2-litre bottle .... right in front of my wheel down a straight-away going about 22mph. NOT fun trying to dodge it while it rolls along just in front of my wheel. I kept waiting to GO DOWN ... and just barely managed to keep it upright.

The drunk chic in the passenger seat had grabbed a entire handful of my ass and squeezed. Then she giggled and they took off. Not sure how to take that...

HAHA That happened to me once too. At first I was mad because it startled me and I almost hit a parked car, then I realized it was a convertible full of college girls and the cute one with her arm still stretched out yelled "Nice ass!" as they continued down the road. Irritated or flattered? I think it was a little bit of both.

I got hit by a glass soft drink bottle with the lid screwed on real tight one time. Hit me in the small of my back and left a bruise the size of a dinner plate. I tried to catch the hoopty Chevette that the bottle came from, but there was no traffic and they lost me. I thought I had been hit with a rock until I saw the bottle spinning in the road.

This next incident involves something coming out of a vehicle, but not being thrown.
One time I was riding down a busy, two lane, one way road with cars parked on both sides. I had moved to the left lane because I was going to turn left soon. A panel van started to pass me and I was really squeezed between the van and parked cars. As the drivers open window got next to me the drivers pit bull ran across his lap and started barking and snapping inches from my face! I was only going a little slower than the van so I had to hit my brakes hard to get away from the dog, since the owner didn't seem too concerned. I could feel the dogs breath and had dog spit on my face! I was always on the lookout for loose dogs in people's yards but never imagined that situation.

On the other hand, I've had more people yell nice things at me than be jerks. I used to get "Way to go!" and "Nice bike!" quite a bit. I've done it myself to other bikers, but got tired of getting the finger.

Oh, and I have been shot in the a$$ by a BB gun. I wasn't moving, just sitting there on my bike talking with some friends.

I got shot with a BB gun just down the street from my house, There was a cop sitting right on the road where it happened. I stopped and told him what just happened and pointed out where the kid was who did the shooting, he was ultra dumb as he was sitting in his own back yard fireing away at tin cans I guess I was a moving target that could not be resisted.

The cop fixed the problem, then the family moved the next week. Perhaps the kid should have been "fixed" as well.

I am very glad I had my backpack on as the sound of the BB strike was loud I know it would have hurt.

That was in September to 2000.

If it was enough to knock you into the bushes perhaps there is some comfort in the fact that somewhere while you were nursing your wounds there was a surprised person with a broken hand or wrist nursing theirs.
