Just a rant, not sure if this even belongs here, but here it is:
I was walking out of a store and this 20ish man and woman pass by me and the man says "I don't like Lance Armstrong," and the woman agrees "Yeah, I think Lance Armstrong is stupid..." It just seemed so random. I'm not a huge fan, but I respect him and have worn a Livestrong band from the start because I think it really stands for something. Anyway, I turned around and gave them a look like "what the heck?" and the guy turned around and looked at me too. I think he saw my Livestrong band after they started their conversation. I wanted to say to the lady "Look at you, you're overweight and you have unoriginal piercings on your face, what's so great about you? Why don't you get on a bike once in a while?"

I'm not a big fan of Lance, but I certainly respect him for what he has done, not only for the cycling, which is more than most of us can claim. why do people say they don't like someone when they certainly don't know anything about them? where's the love?

I would turn to those haters and say, " Well, you're both stupid AND UGLY!"

Ummmm...MOST OF US?!?!?!

Like ANY of US will be 7 time TdF winners in the near future?

People like this amaze me, spouting thisd kind of drivel without even qualifying their statements . The sad part is that the wolrd is full of htese idiots

Who knows, he might be dumber than a bag of hammers . . . I mean, how smart do you have to be to win the TDF? . . . 7 times. Starting something like the LAF really isn't rocket science you know.

It really shows ones true colors to make a statement like that about anybody. Politicians, actors, athletes, famous people in general. You can have opinions on the things they've done in the public eye, but to just call them stupid without justification (i.e., it was really dumb of him/her to do ______) is fairly ignorant. An argument could be made the other way I suppose. Is it equally as ignorant to say something like, "I think LA is the greatest."? Perhaps, but I think it's safe to say someone might make that statement because they heard he won the TDF 7 times and not because they think he was the first man on the moon or something.

To further the problem I will attempt to guess as to why she thinks Lance is stupid: without knowing any specifics about his divorce, or knowing what personal anguish he may have gone through in the process, she thinks he's a bastard: ergo he is stupid.

There is a girl at work. She rags on me for racing bikes/riding in general. Basically "Why ride when you can drive your SUV to work?" She's quite the idiot. Anyway, she proceeds to go off on a rant one day about how Lance is a bastard because his wife went through all his cancer and stuck by his side, and he cheated on her with some rockstar. I promptly set her straight informing her that they didn't meet until he was out of treatment, etc, etc. She says, "Well, I'm sure he's still an a*shole for something."

I mean seriously, WTF? How ignorant are people?

Should have said, "Well that's a shame. Lance always speaks very highly of you."

There actually is a story about George Washington that is very much like this. George was asked about an young officer under his command. He repleid that he was a talanted young man, a fine officer and had a bright future (close as I can remember). Someone then said something like "Sir are you aware that this man says you are a fool ...". George replied "Oh, I's sorry I thought you asked about my opinion of him, not what he thought of me.

Getting back to Lance. I'm often highly critical, but stupid he is not. Either Lance or his management (most likely both) are very bright when it comes to cycling. It seems Lance has held on the the money he has made, so in that also he at least knows who to listen to. At the least Lance is smart enough to know who to listen to in two different areas (at the best far more). But even that least makes him smarter than most people out there.

it is a trend in the american people, we would rather tear down people and enjoy their failure rather than their success

If any moron offers their opinion of Lance Armstrong, ask them to name any other professional cyclist. It's amazing how many people know LA without even watching a bike race. Frankly, while I'm not his #1 fan, I must say he is the least obnoxious US sports personality by far. He didn't have to start the LA Foundation, he didn't need to start the yellow armbands, he just did.

Because they are successful, hard working, and wealthy.

Everything those losers will never be.

People like this bother me too. Lance may not be everyone's cup of tea because they probably don't understand the sport of cycling, but hey, he is using his ability and his podium (pardon the pun) to make the world a better place. What have these people done to make the world a better place?

I also liked the comment about "Yeah, I think Lance Armstrong is stupid." Is he really stupid? (Definition of stupid: 1. Slow to learn or understand; obtuse., 2. Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes. 3. Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.) Or is it that this woman isn't articulate enough to really get here point across. Perhaps she means that she doesn't understand why there is so much hooplah around his 7 tour victories? Or perhaps, like cslone stated about the woman at his/her work, she doesn't like him because he got a divorce?

I don't necessarily think that equates with being 'stupid'. Bottom line, it sounds like she is the 'stupid' one.

I don't care for Lance myself. I do respect his ability and drive. I don't care for his trying to find a cure for cancer while hanging out with a president that thinks it is a bright idea to go back to the moon for $1,000,000,000,000 that's TRILLION dollars. That not being partisan BTW, had lots of problems with democrats burning money on crap. Seems if he wants to raise money to cure cancer and treat cancer it is going to take more than selling wrist bands, which I wouldn't wear for two reason. 1. kind of sheepish and 2. Even the gangsta thugs and mall punks wear them. Just fashion for them until the can afford something solid gold or with spinning rims.

Seems Lance was given a world stage to yell spend some money and find a cure! I don't think the government is doing everything they could. Not even close. Just look at the leeves in New Orleans. They are to be repaired to be the same as before. Not better, higher, stronger. Cause the government is cheap. Look at the space shuttle. Those 7 people were killed cause no one wanted to spend half a billion to fuel up and launch another shuttle for a rescue mission.

Oh yeah and he sucked on Saturday Night Live. Everyone on on that show does. I guess someone should have told him.

Hey he can do whatever he wants but instead of demanding a cure he does a commercial telling me some drug company is doing great thing. Sure they are for $$ not to help people and they'll be more than happy to cover up side effects. Not to mention they will wine and dine those doctors at weekend resorts. Next thing you know you'll need valvanextcane or something like that. Doctors in my area are pushing antidepressants on people that don't want them.

Again that is his right and it is mine to have a low opinion of it.

Yes, he over-hypes the drug companies. But the drug companies did save his life. So I'll give him a pass on that one.

would think that a culture/community/country that claims to be so "superior" could come up with something more intelligent and spot-on then "stupid" or "sucks". I guess it shows the mentality and intelligence of these people.
