Mountain Biking - I need opinions on this bike

I am thinking of buying a Titus Switchblade, the price is kind of high though, around $ 5,000 is this bike worth the price, also are there comparable bikes for less, say around $ 2,000.:beer:

To be honest I had to look this bike up. I have never seen or heard of any of my buddies talking about this bike. What type of riding do you intend to do. At first glance it doesn't look like a 5000$ bike but I am not an engineering major so maybe they have something set differently for their bikeset.

The pivot point they have seems to try to eliminate bike bob. If you are willing to spend that kind of money I would go with some proven bikes that definately work. Orange bikes has two bikes which are very light (OMG for their size and power these bikes rule) and Santa Cruz has a vpp based bike which eliminates all bobbing in the pedal action. These are proven bikes in your range and will do very well as xc as well as dh.

Another bike to consider would be the rocky mountain pipeline. With its varrying suspension (3,4,5 inches) you have a bike which is awesome xc or dh or freeriding. A number of my friends also use these bikes and wouldn't trade them in for anything. But again this is a bike in a little lower range than the previous ones mentioned.

Other people seem to love them http://www.mtbreview.com/reviews/Frameset/product_79286.shtml but, for that amount of money, there is some stiff competition - Kona, Rocky Mountain, Intense, Santa Cruz, Norco, Yeti ... just to name a few. I'd buy the best bike that the LBS you patronize offers (assuming they've earned it). Lucky you. :D

OH MAN have you opened a can of worms......

you will never get a switchblade because of the back order. to make a really really long story short, Titus was stringing my husband along for MONTHS telling him different stories. finally, he got a quasi moto for the price of the switchblade - which he is very happy with.

personally, I would have cancelled my order and got an Intense Tracer. Titus makes awesome bikes - but they can't handle the demand, and it's only getting higher and higher as their racers are winning!

if you have specific questions, ask away.

(bottom line - great bike - not available unless you find one on a showroom floor)

edit: one more thing - I ride a Rocky and am very familiar with their line - the edge doesn't compare to the SB.

The Titus Switchblade is a damn fine mountain bike. $5000 sounds high. A "fully loaded" Switchblade should cost you in the neighborhood of $3000.

If you decide to get a Switchblade, understand that you will be waiting MONTHS for it. I ordered mine in early may, and was delayed three times until they gave me a mid-August delivery time. I b*tched and moaned, so they upgraded my frame to a Quasi Moto at no additional charge. I would recommend calling Titus and asking them about availability, but to be honest with you, I would not trust them (after what I went through).

Titus makes fantastic frames, but their customer service is terrible. Like MtnBikerChk said, I love my Quasi Moto.

Is it my imagination or is the drive train a little unusual? The bottom bracket looks high, the cranks long and the big ring small. Beautiful bike.

Thanks! 13.25" clearance on the BB (this is more a freeride frame than an XC). I love the high clearance. I removed the big ring and put a bashring on, so that's why the big ring looks small.

Ah ... interesting, thanks. I'm familiar with the RacerX, I was wondering where I had heard about Titus before.

Thanks to everyone who responded, the Titus bike sounds like a good one, but with the waiting period being as long as it is, by the time I see it, if at all,there will be snow on the ground, making it impossible to ride it here, I may wait till next spring or summer so that I can ride it the whole summer, as opposed to only 2 more months, if I am going to spend that kind of $$$ I want to ride it at least 6 - 7 months of the year. I have owned a Titus Switchblade for over a year now. I can tell you that It is the best bike I have ever ridden. My bike came from Arizona and was made by a guy named Jason Grove who is a GREAT frame builder. I guess $5000 is a little steep I would only pay about $3000. I have seen them with the Fox Talis forks etc for that price. They dont make the switchblade any more as it was too expensive to reproduce. I have ridden the new Titus Moto Etc Etc and they are not a patch on the Switchblade. It will take everything you throw at it. I also own a Trek 5900 (Lance Armstrong) and an Orange Patriot and a Giant XTC composite All GREAT bikes. But the Titus gives me the most fun. If you want a permanant smile on your face GET A SWITCHBLADE you will not regret it PLUS they can only go up in value as they are not made anymore.
It is one of the worlds GREATEST BIKES. Enjoy
