I'm coming up on buying my first set of replacement tires, so I'm interested in opinions about what people are riding. I'd like something that's got a good balance of longevity and handling--I realize this is a little vague, which is why I'm asking for advice! Any advice on favorites or selecting the right tire is appreciated.
Thanks very much!

It depends somewhat on what type of riding you do. Continental Ultra 3000s are excellent tires at about $25 each. I love them. However, I commute on trashy streets and shred tires within 1000 miles so I buy tires on sale, generally Vittoria HSD 700x25 on sale for $10. They may not be the best, but they last as long as anything for my purpose.

When I flatted yesterday, I got a good view of how worn my Continental Grand Prix 4-Season Gatorskins had become. When I got home I called Colorado Cyclist to order a new pair. The salesman felt that the Grand Prix 3000 would give me more miles than than buying the same as I had before. They're on sale for $39.99.

Thanks for the tips. Actually, I had heard good things about the continentals, so maybe I'll try them.
