13 miles one way, 26 round trip, not to bad. I drove to the trail head then started from there. Why did I drive you ask? First commute and to get to the trail head I have to ride along a busy highway so I decided to just drive the 2 miles of trecherous road. I'm gonna end up riding to the highway (2 miles), jump on the bus and ride the bus to the trail head, then ride from there. Then on the way back, I'll just do the same thing. Now I just need to either get use to the feeling of the saddle or get a new saddle with a bit more cushion cause I got a boney butt! :D

If you've just started riding give the saddle a chance. Your butt will get tempered. If you've been riding for a while and are starting to get out for longer periods and distances, you might need a different saddle. Believe it or not, the longer you're on the bike the narrower a saddle you'll need.

My wife drives down the canyon and parks at the grocery store, then takes her bike off the car and rides 12 miles to the train station. That way she doesn't have to deal with a 4 mile climb at the end of the day, which can be both exhausting and demoralizing for a newbie. So do whatever gets you there and back. Keep on riding.
