Got my results back from EKG test which read sinus bradycardia with occasional premature atrial complexes, my resting hr is 38. I am taking the results to my cardiologist next week but was wondering if anyone might have some insight into this condition. Thanks

It all depends on whether or not you're having symptoms when your heart rate is down that low. Some people, depending on their genetics and their fitness, will run a very slow heart rate and be perfectly healthy. On the other hand, if you're experiencing lightheadedness or shortness of breath or other symptoms you may have a problem.

Sinus rhythm is the normal heart rhythm. That means the sinus node is acting as the pacemaker for the heart. If the heart is going very slowly it is not unusual for a different area of the heart to kick in and act as the pacemaker for a beat or two. The EKG would show this as "atrial premature contractions" or "ventricular premature contractions". Once again, if you are having no symptoms, this would be a normal physiological phenomenon.

It's a question of what came first, the chicken or the egg. Are your Premature Atrial Complexes caused because of the bradycardia or do they exist due to another anomoly?

I have exactly the same condition. My resting heart rate is about 38. I also have premature atrial complexes. This alone is not a great problem but for me with the slow heart rate it allows my heart to go out of normal rhythm. I am on drugs to control this. My heart still goes "out" on occasion but the duration of these episodes are normally very short. I still road and Mt bike. If I have a problem I just slow down.
