I got tired of waiting for finances to allow for me to build up my track fram so I threw my drivetrain from my schwinn onto the razessa. I bought a new chain as well. I get on the bike to ride it and... HORRIBLE Grinding Noise... whenever I put some decent pressure on the pedals. Its not there when I let the pedals spin so Its definatly something to do with the chain/chainring. However...its almost exactly the same kind of chain as the one I had on the schwinn. Please help...it sounds like a cog railway engine.
Ill have it down at MIT tonight if any of you guys who go down there know much about fixing such a thing.

you can't put a new chain on an old ring& cog, they've already married. you need to replace the whole drivetrain at once.

if the noise comes only when you torque the cranks, then something must be flexing under pressure. check if the chainring bolts, crank bolts, and bottom bracket cups are on tight.

It was the chainring bolts. Thanks for the answers.

ivw heard this my whole life, and followed it about half... im starting to think you actually can toss a new chain on and not get hauled away by the fix it police.. cause ive done it a few times.. or changed a chhinring.. and it seemed fine.

same here. i don't think this is a "you can never do this" thing, i think it's more of a "sometimes there's a problem when you do this" thing.
Yeah, you just have to do it by a certain wear point in the chain, and then you can go a pretty dang long time before you have to get a new chainring or cog.
