being chased by someone elses DOG! I was going down a hill today and a huge golden retriever just like stopped 20 ft infront of me and almost ran into it and then it chased me a little bit lol

Atleast you were going DOWN a hill. There is a hill near my house that i rdie down and up on every ride I go on and about half of the time this dog from a house about halfway up chases my so i have to ride as hard as possible up this fairly steep hill once im already tired. And yeah getting chased by a dog does suck. There are worse things though, like getting a flat and pushing your bike up that same hill knowing that dog is going to come out after you.

Doing an endo and landing on the top of your head with no helmet sucks really bad. I did that 15 yrs ago and have not ridden 100' without my helmet since then.

How's the healing going?

I used to do a longer bike ride on the hottest day of the year, it was a ritual. At the time, 40-50 miles was a long ride for me (now I'm only 50-60, but please bear with me). I was about 15 miles out on a heavily trafficked road (mostly trail riding, but there was a few hundred feet of highway between portions) watching behind me too much I missed the pot hole threat in front of me. I was probably doing 25-30 mph when my front wheel stopped but me and the rest of the bike and I didn't. I suppose I was lucky that I took judo as a kid, but though I was able to transfer the vertical momentum fine in my trip over the handle bars (thus no broken bones) I slid along the rocks for an indeterminate number of feet (I ended up about 10-15 feet from my upended bike). I was about 15 miles out, pretty bloody ride back. I washed what rock I could out with my water bottle, was able to better clean up about 5 miles back in a restroom. Lots of little rocks embedded in me. I was dripping blood, literally, most of the way though it'd mostly stopped by the end. The things I remember were the horrified looks of other bicyclists on the ride back and that a wasp flew up my loose shorts about 2 miles from the car. The wasp stung me, but it didn't register pain at all as my endorphines were kicked up pretty high, still for my injuries I'm sure I set some sort of record for dismount. I had to replace the front rim and the radio I had attached to my handlebars, monetarily I suppose it worked out OK. It was the heaviest bike I'd ever had.

going through a corner and drifting off of the trail. Hit a stump that was hidden by a bush. Launched like a bottle rocket over the bars for what seemed like 10 feet up and 50 feet long. Then landing on your head and shoulder.Tha spots I saw after were pretty cool.

Damn I always thought it was being attacked by monkies :D
Healings going find (to the question above) I am commuting again but the slightest bump in the road kills my ribs. I doubt I will be hitting any real trails for a while.

I had this happen on the mountain with it getting progressively worse throughout more runs. I did 5 more runs without the front disc. I found it taught me more than hurt me. I really learned how fast I could take corners :)

At the bottom of said hill was a sharp left hander, with some steps going straight on. I missed the turn and went down the steps. I went down them, the bike stayed at the top. I then went to hospital and my bike to the repair shop. I still shudder at the the thought of the moment of realisation that I'm totaly out of control and gaining speed...

Going over the bars, landing on your head and crushing your spine just enough that you die a slow agonizing death in your buddies arms. I know someone this actually happend to in '92 I believe.

Worst ride was when we started out as 5 riders, and finished with only 3 and a phone call to find out that one of the other two had died of a heart attack.

Give new meaning to the phrase dropping riders.

2nd worst thing was being chased thru the woods by a drunk driver in his Ranger pickup. the worst thing was getting hit by a truck while on my way to Choir practice in front of Home Depot and shoved into a highway. I was ok, just scrapes and strawberries, but the bike didnt make it

Words of encouragement huh? :D
The worst thing that can happen is when, suddenly, you aren't on your bike anymore.

get eaten by a mountain lion
Hmmmm does hitting a tree at 50k's head on count? Or flying over the bars so quick you don't know it's happening until your face is hitting th ground while still in a normal riding position adn getting a concussion all in your race run. Another nice thing to happen to me was nose casing a high speed double, bruising my ribs and taco'ing my front wheel. Or maybe the permanent ankle damage I know have...... all happy days:)
lol ow...hopper what bike do you have?

Worst thing to ever happen to me would be... getting stuck in an unfamiliar forest's trail system without a map, in fourty degree temperatures, with daylight fading fast, no water, and a dead cellphone.
And a half working bike, and fatigued legs.
Was a tough day. O_O
lol haha thatd suck so bad...one time the whole right side 1-8 speed cable thingy gear whatever broke and i was like 3 miles from home which really sucked and 2 summers ago my bike had a flat so i had to push it home but then the tube started to wrap around the frame part by the hub so i had to "push" the bike a mile and a half home lol which made the skid marks all the way:)

I carried my bike several miles when I've had flats like that. The new punture resistant tubs and treads (new for me) really help to conserve some air in the tires. Second worst thing was an irony thing. I moved from the Mid West to Fla and my mom would always worry about me swimming in the ocean and gulf. I quoted her this statistic several times that if you worry about swimming in the ocean because of sharks, you should be worried about walking on the sidewalk as a car could jump the curb and run you down. Flash forward to my last day in Florida, I'd just dropped off my car and was riding back to get the U-Haul. I stopped on the sidwalk waiting for a car at a school crossing which jumps the curb and hits me. I didn't know I was hurt at the time, but my knee has been just a little messed up since that happened. Lost my bike as well, plus I had to drive a UHaul 1300 miles towing a car. So, does that meanth threat of shark attack IS real?
Non injury wise te worst thing to happen to me on a trail is that less than a quater into a run on Australia's longest and possibly hardest DH track I flipped and snapped my front break lever. It was fun trying to ride down the track with only a rear brake, no way to slow easily on the corners at the bottom of steep straights:p I got drifting through brake ruts dialled that day:p
Also for who ever asked, this si my bike

I would bet it was a burp in the system. You cant manuall respond 6 times without waiting 30seconds each time and I doubt hopper did that.

Worst was last night.....
OK Im freeridey, urban, trails, everything....so lastnight all the freshmeat, I mean freshman where moving onto campus, so I decided to do a little urban, try and pick up a few new riders and spread the word on who the campus belongs to when the street lamps turn on (JK). So Iam blasting a double set... stairs then a platform then stairs...as I start to push down into the second set I notice a group of people walking up the stairs on the other side of the handrail..WOOO I think me SHOW OFF... so I decide to X UP in the middle of the stair set, this is no prob, as i have done it a MILLION times (I really counted) but this time I started my x up in the split second that my frnt tire was inbetween stairs (still in air) so when my frnt tire landed it was on the way back from the xup at a 45deg. angle......bike gets all squirly and both feet slip..... Buissness district lands on the rear wheel and rides forward untill my seat catches me right wher my rib cage ends (right under sternum) which stops my butt and comences the Maxxis High Roller Raping session...... I come to a halt at the bottom of the stairs and look into the eyes of the bewildered youngins.....All I could spout was "WASNT THAT COOOOOL????" with a surprised ******** look on my face.....'yeah' a couple of them replied...I hopped on my bike and finished my ride...good times, good times

Snapping my leg like a twig.
third: cruising home from class, tried to juggle my bike lock and the handlebars at the same time while speeding down a hill. Hit a sidewalk, flipped, slid ~10 feet on one shoulder while bike (which was on top of me) tried to dig ditches. Somehow, it didn't hurt. even still have the dress shirt, though it may have a bit of a grass stain on it.
second: thirty miles with a loose headset and stem, so no steering.
first: sped around a blind corner at the bottom of a big hill into another cyclist. The resulting concussion ended up causing me to drop my last class and graduate early. :) my front brake lever's still bent from that, though.

This wasnt me but a kid in my grade 2 years ago (7thgrade) near the end of the year was leaving my school and darted out the driveway and got hit by a car and died...yes thats right he died. And my IT teacher saw it and also this girl saw it too. His parents were out of town too....It was such a tragedy. And the next day it was so quiete and alot of people were crieing, I was a little too. And the thing is he was a great kid, every one liked him and no one didnt like him at all. He was also a good student and was a star on the track team at shotput. there is a plack up at that school for him. His ex girl friend was gonna go back out with him that day after and she came in school like half way through the day. Omg he didnt even finish 7th grade. No one callled his best friend and in school the next day when we were waiting to go in he asked y it was so quiete and his friend told him and he just looked at him and said "What?" and then later he was crying a lot and he called his mom and she had to come in cause she coiuldnt understadnd him and this is a big tough kid too. Right now I am crying my self, sorry for such a horrible story I dont know why im even posting it. RIght now I am crying too cause im going into so much detail.......
Sorry about my sentences and grammar its real late and im upset.
Falling into a river. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=129761) Which isn'tt so bad compared to the rest of the stories.
Thats too bad for the kid:(

worst thing that ever happened to me was when i was really young, i was speeding round my street (its a circle) and at the bottom they had just resurfaced the roads and i sped round the corner with my back wheel sliding out takin me with it, I slid across the loose gravel for about 10ft then sat at the side of the road covered in blood and stones crying untill my parents came out, another time well theres 3 sets of stairs down the road from me 2 have about 15 stairs and the last has about 30, I used to do the first 2 sets all the time then got pressured into doing the last, so i rode down the first 2 then came up 2 the second chickened out at the last minit squeezin my brakes but the bike didnt stop and i ended up fallin down the set of stairs with the bike behind me, i landed at the bottom and my mates just ran luckily it was right beside the naval dockyard so the guards at the gates phoned an ambulance and i got takenb to hospital with my head split open and my wrist broken, i later found out that my mates had ran to my house to get my dad and he told me they came and started shouting ITS SEAN HES FELL DOWN STAIRS YOU HAVE TO COME! There were drops of blood on every step looked pretty cool.
