Commuting - Coolest grocery commute ever

Just took my new Xtracycle to the grocery store.
4 big bags of groceries, several 2 litres of soda and i didn't notice the weight at all.
A rolling side mount, foot-free stall at the crosswalk and even a rolling dismount.
Rode fast on sidewalks without worrying about trailer wheels getting caught in the grass.
ahhh, new bike feel, new bike smell...even half a new bike is still cool.

Awesome to see someone else with an Xtracycle. We have one at the place I work (an outdoor shop on campus) to run errands around town and on campus. We used our's this year for advertisement: one biker, one sitting on the board with a sign, and one getting pulled behind on a kayak-on-wheels.

how can you ride around with a trailer? are the people cooler where you are? here they about take out the rear wheel (and sometimes simply aim for pedals) of whatever bipedal traveler comes their way...

"ride fast on sidewalks" may not be so good, remember peds walk there and you don't want to run into someone.

Boulder area bike paths/ multi use/ sidewalks are often similar if not connected. That said more to illustrate the manuverability than as an endorsement of sidewalk riding... Seldom ride sidewalks at all, too dangerous and illegal in town.

I think it's really cool to be able to do a decent amount of grocery shopping on your bike! Can you post a pic of your bike?

I use my Burley Nomad trailer sometimes for grocery shopping. The thing is cavernous... I can put the entire contents of one of those big shopping carts into it, and the bike still handles just the same (although you can feel the added weight).

I want a spare bike so I can get an extracycle for it. My apartment is so small though I would have to sleep outside just to keep all my bikes inside.

I am stuck with bungie straps and tupperware bucket until I can afford better, but given that, I have been able to haul 6 - 1/2 gal. of milk, salad makings - cans on top, bread - eggs - lightweight items in plastic sack slung to the sides. Essentially about 1 1/2 to 2 carry baskets. Sometimes I have to make 2-3 trips to either the 3 mile store or the 1 mile store. It is good for me though :)

It is good for me though :)You can get grocery panniers for $20 at Performance quite often. With two of them to balance out things, you can carry home two bags of groceries comfortably. You can also get child-carriers dirt cheap at thrift stores. Some of these come with a quick disattach so you don't always have to look like you're luggin a small one. With these you can toss a large back-pack right in. You can also attach additional bags (had some military ones from SciPlus, $3.75) around the outside for additional storage. Since its plastic, you drill additional holes for lights and such. These are the cheap ideas that I've used/am using.

I am intrigued by the Xtracycle, but don't think I could do the kit myself. I bet the local LBS would charge $200 for the installation, lol. By the time I'm done, might as well have purchased the whole bike. Will be looking for those pics.
