on the second day back on the bike after my accident, I was almost hit this morning by a running pedestrian. As I've had this actually happen to me (I was track-standing at a light and the pedo was jaywalking) I am aware of this "danger" but geez.

Don't people take physics anymore? I mean, even at my current slow speed, when traveling up hill I still manage to "hit" a 10-15 mph (16-26 kmh) and I weigh with bike and all 220 lbs/100 kg.

Do the equation and you'll get the result: "o=uch"

oh well.

Tom, as a cyclist I consider pedestrians potentially as dangerous as motorists, even more so because they don't pay attention. My most serious crash was due to a pedestrian (though he intentionally assaulted me!

I find I need to practice defensive walking, defensive riding and defensive driving. Care for yourself. To many of the others are not paying attention and too often will not accept responsibility when something goes wrong.

This reminds me of a bizarre occurrence involving a car and a pedestrian....
I was riding on a country road when I am passed by a car headed in the same direction. After a minute or two I see the car returning. The car slows to a stop before we meet. I am riding at approximately 16 mph and not feeling threatened as it is an older lady driving the car. However, out of the back seat comes a little girl that has apparently seen a bird on the shoulder of the road I am riding on. She darts over to pick up the bird just as I'm passing the car. I swerve to miss her and darn near hit the door of the car! Who would have thought! -Yvonne

I generally believe that pedestrians are just drivers who were lucky enough to find a car park. To be honest, both would be much easier to deal with if they just watched where they were going.

I want this for my avatar! That's great.
