I am currently looking to start riding and have looked at a few bikes and hope maybe you can help me. I am looking to ride for exercise purposes and the mere enjoyment of the outdoors. Some paved trail riding and some off road trail riding approx 3-5 times a week. I want a bike that will take some harder riding if I decide to do so but don't want to go nuts right out of the box. The following are the bikes I am looking at to purchase. I would appreciate and comments or advice on the following rides. All the bikes are presented as brand new.
-'06 Raleigh Mojave 5.0 $460 with free lifetime service, tune ups, and lifetime warranty for all components to be free of defects from shop.
-'04 Giant Iguana $400 with rumor of the shop going out of business / service offer is free for first 30 days then minor tune ups free after that. Any service $49.95 per shot. Bike has some minor scratches and the handlebars were out of alignment but the salesman says no one has taken the bike out for a ride other than staff to test it. Have a funny feeling that an '04 would still be in the shop and that I was the first in the year and a half its been there to notice the alignment problem? IS this something to worry about?
-'06 Gary Fisher Opie $350 with free lifetime service, tune ups, and lifetime warranty for all components to be free of defects from shop.
-'06 Trek 3900 $330 unsure of service due to the fact I have not visited the shop yet.
The free lifetime service and tune ups seems like a big deal and it would save alot of money down the road. The shop offering this is the only one in the New Haven area with this arrangement. I understand alot has to do with the personal liking of the ride. I will be test riding these on Tues. I just wanted to know if there was any noticeable differences to be aware of or problems any of you have had with the above. If you have any other comparable suggestions I am all ears. These are just the bikes I have found from local shops. Thanks in advance for your help!
