I came across this Geoffrey Butler in a local shop, it had been used as partial trade in to a MTB. I bought it for $100.

With the help of the people at GB Cycles in the UK I tracked down a full decal set, stripped the paint and had it repainted.

Cleaned and polished everything, etc. This bike is now back on the road. A lovely ride it is.

A good restoration is a very satisfying experience, this will now take up residence beside my mid '60's Claud Butler.

Wow, very nice work. What is that white stuff on the tires though?

Nice job. I like the black headtube.

Beautiful bike! I like the Cinelli-style sloping fork crown (looks like mine :) ). What is the vintage, circa 1980?

Looks like talc or baby powder, which you place inside clinchers. Keeps the tube from sticking inside and reduces pinch flats.

Hmmm....but those look like tubular rims. Sloppy gluing, maybe?

OK, here is the deal. I was in a hurry to glue the tires on and the only glue I had at home was that awful white Tubasti glop.

It doesn't set up nice and firm like most other glues and when you try to get the tire on it sticks to everything, reminds me why I had the tubes of Tubasti lying around unused.

Now I am trying to get the glop off the tires!!

The bike is closer to late '60's early '70's I think. GB Cycles pegged it around early '70's but I think earlier because there are no braze-ons at all and still using cable clamps for the rear brake cable.

Goof off - comes in the yellow can and smells like a chemical plant - works great for removing glue from tires.
