I just bought a great little rear tail light from Bike Nashbar. It is only about 1.5 inches in circumfrence, but it sure does put out the light! It has no on/of switch. Included with the elastic attachmnet is a plastic keeper. To start the light, you just rub the keeper across the light, and it goes on. Do it again, and it goes into a blinking mode. There are three blinking modes. It is run by two watch batteries, which they say will last 166 hours. They were on sale for $7.95 each at BN last weekend -- normal price is $12.95. With the elastic laniard, you can put this light about anywhere on your bike, or if you are a walker/runner, you can put it on your arm. It is made in France, but marketed by one of the big U.S. companies (Cateye maybe?). The unit is advertised as water proof. It is not listed in the catalog. If the sales person doesn't know what you're talking about (and many don't) ask to speak to the tech guy. The Bike Nashbar tech guy is the one who put me on to this light. I just bought five more.

I have two of the white ones and two of the red ones. I put a white on the front of my helmet and a red on the back. The other white is on my fork and the other red is on the back of my trunk bag. Great idea!

Will they fit on spokes? With the right blink rate and wheel speed you could make it look like they were going backwards. That would get attention :D

The bike light technology is coming along in leaps and bounds. I just bought a Performance house brand headlight with 5 LED's that takes 4 AAA batteries, is light and burns for 40 hours stead and 150 hours on pulse. Plus, you can see it from the side. It is about the side of two D cells end to end but much lighter than my old light that took to C cells. I like it! (it was $15 bucks).
