How to Fight Back Without Really Dying

Using your rear view mirror, check for traffic in the left lane. Change lanes. Wave him through with middle finger. Let him pass. FLIP THE BIRD. Enjoy. By the time, the idiot reacts, he's too far away and you are safely behind him.

If you get to him at a light, and he is stopped, put some distance between you and him. Then, do your road rage thing. If he gets out of the car, you can make a quick exit. He's toast. Checkmate.

Always put some distance, if possible, two lanes of traffic, between you and him. You can taunt him, yell obscenities at him all you want. Use the speed differentials and the bike's quick manuverability to your advantage.

NEVER GET CLOSE ENOUGH TO GET PHYSICAL. If you want to kill the guy, let the traffic do it for you. Spare yourself felony assualt. If you are successful, you may not want to stick around to see the bloody mess.

What do fighter pilots do in combat? They always try to get behind the bad guy. Always think of ways to get behind or adjacent, with some distance, to the wild and crazy driver. Then, LET LOOSE WITH YOUR OWN ROAD RAGE!

If you want to play creative, parking lots are perfect for the old cat and mouse. See if you can get your bad guy to crash into something while he's doing his road rage thing.

One of the movies on www.digave.com has the filmer, Lucas Brunelle, getting in a fight with a cager, he (Brunelle) goes over the center median and cruises along wrong-way (there's very little traffic that day) and basically keeps distance between him and the cager. Let the traffic do it for you is the Golden Rule. And get video if you can!

As entertaining as the video is, I wouldn't have shed a tear if they cager would have caught up to him and doored him.....

Thanks for your help in the cause Lucas......

If you catch up with a rager at a traffic light, simply stay a couple car lengths behind him. Maintaining a safe distance eliminates the possibility of escalating the confrontation (either side), and prevents the motorist from using his vehicle to assault you.

Being well behind the motorist also virtually eliminates the possibility of him coming at you on foot as he would have to venture a long way past the safety of his vehicle. And if he tries, you can almost certainly turn around and put more distance between you and him.

There is no benefit to riding up next to a blithering fool and trying to discuss the finer points of traffic law. Just let it go and be content knowing that you are the one enjoying the benefits of cycling while the idiot behind the wheel pays $2.75/gallon for gasoline.

Drinking and riding in Baltimore. Riding drunk in downtown traffic? If you ask me this guy's asking for a smackdown.

Is that the video where the the bike riders are in a race where they have to chug a big beer at each check point and the rider hits a motorist that had the right of way? And then the motorist chases him?

It is an amazing video to watch but I don't see how it puts a good "spin" on cyclers.

From the website (http://www.digave.com/videos/)
"We drank and raced at the same time, we were required to drink a 40 OZ and shots at each checkpoint, I hit a car mirror with my elbow and a car chase ensues while I’m trying to race

Azzholes should be arrested and then have their 5 year probation include a cycling ban.

Ya know.. I have half a mind to forward this video to the Baltimore PD.
These idjits remind me of the brainiacs that videotape their robberies.

The sonsofbytches could cause all sorts of accidents to innocents.
I HATE CYCLISTS WHO THINK THEY'RE ABOVE THE LAW!

Drink a 40 at each check point? I'd drink one then go sleep it off under a tree.........

OK the guy's probably in the wrong but his evasive style was a good example of how to use the car's abilities against it - go where it can't go and use the possibility that other cars might solve your problem by hitting the guy.

"That was your fault?" Uh... What planet does that guy ride on?

Your Honor, I present people's exhibit A, where we see the car clearly on the proper side of the road, and the defendant being stupid...

I kind of saw it that way too. It's hard to tell from the video but to me it looked like he and his racing buddies tried to shoot through the intersection when the other roadway left turners had a green light (they were moving). The "racers" tried to shot the gaps between the cars and the cameraman didn't quit make it and "dinged" the motorist a little. And the pursuit unfolds ...

... but his evasive style was a good example of how to use the car's abilities against it The racer/camerabike did keep the car at a distance but as you can see at the end, the motorist still followed him right to where he stopped.

He did, but he did not challenge the cyclist because there were a bunch other racers there, and he was out numbered. He could have driven right up to the bike rider.

Obviously retardation can afflict motorists and cyclists. Too bad we can put these arse-clowns in thier own little world to endlessly chase and harass each other, leaving the rest of us to peacefully co-exist.

I'm surprised that motorist didn't just plow thru the whole flock of jackazzes.

I'm not sure I'd blame him, and I certainly wouldn't mourn these idjits being removed from the planet.

I don't think that rednecks drive mini-vans.

Yeah, I thought I heard a "Get out of the car" in the backgroud.

The problem is, one day, this guy is going to get into an accident that may not be his fault........once the other side gets ahold of the clips....it's over....

Plus, you know if a cager, doing something dumb, hit this guy and busted something off his bike, he'd want to call the police....then again, maybe the race (and footage) is more important....

There's many posts that suggest carrying a small camera. In the event an agressive driver comes at you, you can get a pic of it. The gentleman cyclist with the onboard video system has a great tool except he would have to fast forward through about 100 of his own traffic violations to get to the agressive driver footage. Also notice how many storm drains with the slits going with traffic there are. You can't fault the motorist for not wanting to jump into the crowd. I would have stood back at a distance and took picts of the cyclist. At least he would have something when he reported the incident to the police.

I think the gentleman who made the video should go into business and sell the videos as cycling training aids. Sort of like "whoever finds the most infractions wins" or "point out the safety hazards on the street", etc. Turn this negative cycling event into something positive at least.
