Road Bike Racing - Elites zonder contract....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I can't believe someone else on this board even noticed the Elite zonder contract champs. I raced with a lot of those guys back in the 90's and even then, a lot of them seemed to be past their prime. Bike racing is the kind of sport where longevity is embraced I guess.

Me too...more in Holland than Belgium, though. Wiebren Veenstra's son Wopke was the enfant terrible of the time....never heard of him after I left.
John Talen and Tom Cordes kept going for years too....
Here's the page from wielerparcours.com.....I use it to brush up my Flemish!

Verhoevon won a stage in the tour in like 1987, and he wasn't a new pro either. He must be 200 years old or something.
Hmmm......I think it's his son or a Belgian kid with the same name. Rides for the primarily cyclocross John Saey-Deschacht squad.
Further investigation required.
