Road Cycling - Specialized 2003

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
All I can say is, wow. Their road bikes are spiffy! I can't wait to get one. http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/2003/bikes/allez_elite_d.jpg
Fubar,
I really think you need the Aqua E Sapone version in
zebra stripes.

Here's the plain vanilla version:

The wrench at my LBS was building up the 2003 A&S E5 last week. Very sweet bike... Very pretty... From all I've heard, Specialized has really got it right this year.
They've got one (Allez, not E5) for 1740. If I can save up that much, I'll get it for sure.http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/2003/bikes/allez_comp_as_d.jpg

Yeeeah!!!
This one is nice, and only 820, but it doesn't have 105.http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/2003/bikes/allezsport27_d.jpg

I'm sure the bikes are great, but there's something about the compact geometry that still makes me cringe.

Cringe? To each his own. I think it makes them look racy and
swoopy and what not.
Love that red one with the Ksyriums.

Yeah? Personally I torn between the traditional geometry and compact, I really like the looks of both. But when I test rode some road bikes I liked the compact geometry better. But I'm kind of reluctant to get compact because it just doesn't seem "real" if you know what I mean.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned that Specialized has some '03 road bikes with "Columbus SLX" frames. It's really zooty that a major manufacturer is selling stuff like we used to ride/race (Reynolds 531 SL & 753 and Columbus SL & SLX) 20 - 25 years ago, and that some, including me, are still riding today. Boy, a nice steel frame with modern components (Ultegra & Dura Ace), at a good price (About $1,700 w/Ultegra) will be hard to pass up.
Now if they only had a Campy option!?

Actually, it's a different SLX. Specialized's "SLX" refers to the shape and butting of the tubeset; the material is aluminum. Columbus "E5" is basically the Specialized private-label version of Starship.
Oops? Nevermind!
ps: What a sleazy deal. With all the available tube names, why resurrect a venerable/classic designation for, of all things, an aluminum tube set? I'm chagrined and disappointed with Specialized. Oh well...
