well, i started riding about 2 months ago, and am hooked, almost exclusively road miles, my mountain bike is very lonely, but here is the dilema. I like to ride every day, but when i got 40 or 50 miles a day after 4 or 5 days i really seem to struggle to keep good tempo and my times slow bad. I f i go really long every 3 days i feel great and just zip along. So should i go maybe every other day, or drop the milage if i go every day. Just bought a new Trek so I'm way pumed about that. If it helps i usually do 50 miles in around 3-3.5 hours. Thx in advance.

Hey Brian,

Welcome to the forums! You got some good responses on this topic in another section re: overtraining!

Where in MI are you located?

I have been back riding for a year. When I started back riding a lot of miles or a lot of hills and my legs feel weak or I even if I just don't really feel into it I take a day to just do a relaxing ride. Stopping for breakfast, coffee, smell the roses so to speak. It does wonders for me. On course sometimes I don't even look at the bike. Karl

I'm in Sault Ste. Marie, which might very well be the armpit of the world. Land of mullets and nascars....yuck. The bad news is that winter will be here real fricking soon. screw it though, no snow, i'm riding.

Monte. Congratulations on your new addiction. Sounds like you are doing great....
Sault Ste. Marie is a little rough, but 50 miles puts you in some pretty scenic locations. I've been in your stomping grounds. Just curious. 50 miles- where do you find yourself in your 3.5 hours..
I would sure like to follow you, if I were nearby.. Roads ok for cycling? How about crossing over into Ontario and going up the Trans Canada Hwy.?
Good cycling where..? I know I would be heading out towards Tahaquamenon Falls...

To go out to the falls and back would be almost 110 miles round trip, i think that might be aqbit much. Most of the raods are really nice especially the back roads since i might only see four or five cars my entire ride. I wish i did have someone to ride with, but the solitude is nice also.

Monte. To many doing the century is a turning point that makes you serious about cycling. It is flat to the Falls, If I were there- that would be my benchmark to new bragging rights ! As I said to the cyclist from Houghton, on the rear of my car is a bumper sticker- "Say Yeah to the U.P. Heah. ! Wish I was there for early September to do this ride. No cycling clubs in either of the Sault Ste Marie's.?
Had one of the best New Year's there.. Stayed at the Aloquinian Hotel(sp?) near the locks.. Day before hotel's New Year's Bash- went on the snow train tour.. Can't imagine riding in four feet of snow..
glad to hear the roads are ok for cycling.. If you want you will be on your way to the falls, before you know it; at the rate you are riding..
I am touring Nevada in late September, so I try to get in at least an 80 mile ride once a week in preparation...
ps- By way Monte, wonder how much longer going to the Falls would take, if one were to go around Paradise and south to the Falls. Some cyclists goal is to do two centuries in a day ! Wow..
