General Cycling Discussion - Where do you store your bike? House, garage, outdoors?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I used to store my old road bike in the garage, but now that I bought a new bike, I keep it in the house. It looks kind of odd, though, to see an item that is only used outdoors being kept indoors. So where do you guys and gals keep your bike(s)?

Either inside in my room (trainers make nice bike stands), or inside the trunk of my car.

The Triumph is on the front porch, the Bauer and Venture are down beside it, under a tarp. All are locked. They're also under the watchful eye of Joe.
Joe is our extremely chunky Rottie. :D
Better than Kryptonite!
Inside my locked garage locked to a heavy work bench.
The Kona stays in the garage, the Orbea stays in the house.

I got a piece of carpet runner and have that down on the floor near the door, my 2 bikes are parked on that. It's my bike garage. I'm seriously considering hanging tools somehow on the wall above the bikes, and a picture of Lance or Eddy or someone above that!

My bikes have their very own room in the basement off the garage.

My bikes are less than a foot from my bed, literally. I like it that way!

From March to December, the bike is in the back of my Subaru. Goes where I go. Ready for use.
In the winter it sleeps in the shed in the back yard.

The Vitus hangs vertically above the door in the bathroom closet.
The Catamount and Colnago hang horizontally in the entryway above and to either side of the door.
The Eddy Merckx and my wife's Centurion Master both lean against the wall in the kitchen/sitting area.

i keep mine in the basement of my apartment building. it's kind of like a bike room, but more just like a bike rack and some hitching posts.

In the garage, four hanging from the ceiling on ropes with pulleys, one on the floor, attached full-time to the bike trailer and ridden five days a week (makes it hard to hang from the ceiling). We don't seem to be in a big theft area, and this seems to work fine. Also, the master bedroom is over the garage- If you mess with the hanging bikes I'm likely to hear it.
I drive part way to work, then bicycle in the rest of the way.
So..my bike is usually stored in the back of my SUV.
My Giant is generally stored in my van. It takes the place of my recently retired electric scooter (rascal). When not in the van, the bike is stored in the kitchen. My huffy is in the garage,
With no garage or shed space, we have to keep our 2 mtbs and 2 roadies outside. They are locked to our fence (tall, privacy fence), and both have weatherproof covers. In the winter, they go down in the cellar. I don't keep them there all year because it is a real pain in the ass to bring them up and down the narrow stairs. I would love to have a garage!!!
In the great room (aka the living room)
Question who makes those bike stands where you roll the bike into it and it stands on its own?

Living room and leaning against the front of the couch. Well since the couch wasn't used it now has a purpose.
I have 4 places in life, at work on my feet, on my bike, on my computer chair, or in bed sleeping.
I suppose if I feel to lonley I can go sleep on the couch now and be next to my bike......hahah

Both bikes are in my bedroom on the storage rack, one above the other. The beater sits on the porch outside.

Garage....My Felt F-70, Specialized MTB and my wifes MTB Trek..... The cats guard them, real fluffy and they know how to meow and eat their cat food so I know they are safe.

Garage, so bike is cool/cold in the winter months. Besides more room there. Would not consider storing in house unless construction going in inside garage.

I have some bikes in the garage - I built a rack out of threaded pipe that I can hang five bikes from. The rest are in the basement.

Three bikes between us. One road bike, one hybrid, one folder (which is usualy unfolded). The all go in the small dining room in the apartment, one against each of three available walls.

In the back of my truck (inside locked camper shell). I live on a sailboat, so no garage. (:

Locked to the railing outside my apartment, 2 feet from where I sit and relax, totally in view. I even make a point to park it right under the hallway light and it's visible all the way to the street, just in case.

In my pantry! : ))) I wheel my Giant through the living room, through the kitchen, and park it in the pantry. The pantry has a door. It's actually a rather roomy nook. My brother's wife's 12-year daughter went in the pantry and thought it would make a cool "mini bedroom." My Giant agreed and now wants its own TV and phone ...

Hanging horizontally in the garage - it gets taken down, ridden, and rehung every day. Nothing to it!

Our bikes are on a floor rack (from Lowe's) in the dining room. The garage is full of kayaks.

I don't have a garage or storage building. Outside seems too risky. So, yeah, mine's in the living room. :D
I guess I'm lucky to have such a supportive wife. I store mine in the spare room.
2 in the family room and 4 in what used to be the study. :)

Inside my apartment in a little area that is called a den. When I first bought a bike I stored it inside because I had no where else to keep it. When I moved, I got an apartment with a balcony thinking perhaps I would start keeping my bikes on the balcony. I never did do it and now, I'd prefer not to do that. I bought an used road bike that is in fairly good shape but it did seem to have bit of a weathered air around it. My commuter bike stays in a bike locker while at work, but otherwise none of them are outside unless I'm riding them. If I move into an apartment with less interior space and a balcony, I might consider moving them outside again.

The Trek,Raleigh,Giant, and Sirrus are down in the parking garage. The Kona and Buzz are hanging up in the living room and the others are strewn about the bedroom. I have a second rack for the living room that I need to put together, after that the Fuji folder will prolly get stuffed behind the kitchen door, and I've no idea where the remaining bike will wind up.

Be careful with using that rack on carpet. I have a Topeak like that and wound up picking my Cannondale up off the floor. :(
The rack I have in my living room now is one of these:

I love it. Very secure. I've bumped the bikes on it several times and never got more than a slight wobble.

I keep my bent, trike, and an old huffy in the dinning room, and then my commuter in the living room.

Indoor due to insurance reasons. Only place they're fully covered.
With 180 square meters there's room enough for 3 persons and a few bikes.

As I've said elsewhere, we have a bike infestation. As of this writing, there are four bikes located at points around the living room and dining room. We don't have a garage (only a carport) and while I used to lock my mountain bike up on the front porch, I had a bad experience with this redneck jerk messing with it after I refused to hire him to mow my lawn, so now even my beater bike stays inside. That ratfaced punk cracked one of my GripShift controls doing goodness only knows what. Prying against the handlebars trying to break my lockup chain, I think.
We have skeevy crackhead/meth-addict losers in the neighborhood who take great pride in stealing each other's crap, and boy howdy do they like stolen bikes. Mostly they steal double-sprung Wal-Mart bikes, but I just don't want to tempt fate, you know?

At first I stored my bike in the basement which was an authentic 1970s rumpus room. Once we remodelled that room I built a shed in the backyard for bikes, since rolling dirty bikes on new carpet was forbidden. I put a deck on top of the shed and my son gets a play fort and I get secure dry bike storage.

You people with a few bikes need this kind of setup:
