Mountain Biking - Who does Adventure Racing?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I started adventure racing almost immeadiatly after getting my first mountain bike. Now I do long bike races and still do adventures. Has anyone else on here gotten the bug? Just curious. If you're thinking of doing one check out this one in Hot Springs, AR. I helped with the course layout and it's going to be a fun one.

I want to. There is a local race about twice per year here in western north carolina (usually at the Tsali Recreational Area).
However the fall race ends up on the last day of a bike tour that I am doing so I'll miss it again. :-(

Yes I am also interested in doing long, marathon, off road races/tours.
At 42 I have no desire for jumps, drops, and other stunts. I have been riding my mtb on the road with slicks for exercise but am looking to go off road more. I have put the knobbies back on the bike and am just trying to steal time to get off road. :p
I looked into the Vermont 50 (http://www.vermont50.com/) but I believe they reached their limit and have closed registration. I do plan to do it next year though.
There are other events that I am aware of though that you might be interested in.

I'm trying to get a group of four together for an adventure race on October 1 at Rocky Hill Ranch in Texas. I have two other guys right now and am looking for a fourth. After doing the Muddy Buddy, I really liked the different skills needed. We, of course, have no idea what we're in for, however. I assume it depends on the course and events, but what kind of shape do you need to be in to compete? Or, how about finish? Any training tips? Anybody in Houston reading this, email me if you want to be part of Team America. Thanks,
