That's hilarious...I mean mind those .01% of people who actually reply to those. We got to consider what kind of people are sitting behind those computers writing these emails...Pathetic

So I have 22 metric tons of raw copper in my garage and no money in my bank.

Copper is the new Scandium. Just you wait!

If .0001% of people that recieve these respond with legitamite information and it gets sent to 100 Million People

100,000,000 * .000001 = 10,000 responents.
If each of those people have an average of $500 dollars stolen from them:

10,000 * $500 = $5,000,000.

That is why these people do these scams. If enough people are greedy/dumb enough to fall for it, they will get a lot of money with little or no legal reprocussion since they are in Nigeria.

If you get a laugh when recieving these, you'll like this site even more: http://www.419eater.com/

Basically a group of people that scam the scammers. Some things might not be safe for work, so use caution.

I work for the Oz government agency responsible for financial and investment regulation. We get the same people caught out on investment scams over and over again. Of course, it's never their fault.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Heh some moron tried that with me a while back.

He wanted to buy some of my company's product...however he didn't know what company I worked for, let alone what he wanted to buy...I asked him what gear, and he just kept acting like a moron. After a while of this, I was starting to think it was a kid, nobody's grammar and vocabulary sucks this bad...well except for your average middle-school puke. (hey I was a middle-school puke at one time...therefore I can mock them too...I earned my stripes :p)

I also loved how he didn't even know what my company made...it could have made blenders, pool toys, dead chipmunks, or something dark and sinister....like soybeans.

I eventually told him to go scam somebody else, I'm not interested and my company is not interested in dealing direct with customers, that's what channel vendors are for....that seemed to get him all angry.

...then he dropped the "your IP is...." bomb....hooray he found our network provider's switch....what a trooper...he's about 4 more hops from my building's firewall, and another 3 hops from my PC....looks like someone discovered tracert, and was too impatient/ignorant/stupid to make sense of the output. Doesn't matter anyways since that was AT&T's toy right there...how he thinks AT&T makes network hardware is beyond me.

...at that point he just started up with a hostile line of questioning, of which I just pulled the "if you don't know, you aren't allowed to know" line...which at the time I was more than allowed to do, considering the type of products I was working on....heck even the board members heard that line more than once.

Well here comes another moment of monumental genius...he discovers my Yahoo profile! OMFG I R HUMAN!!!! Of course now he's just spewing plain old threats....a quick IP trace, and some creative use of the internet, and I discovered this moron was scamming from his house, in the US! So...gogo terraserver! After asking him if the house at the end of the cul-de-sac was his...long pause...

..."how did you know that?"
..'kid, I was on a keyboard back when you were nothing but a gleam in your father's eye...now get offline before I call your parents'
*moron is now offline*

...if only i had a nickel for everytime I have seen a web scam...I would have a fully decked out custom chrome plated mountain bike right now....dripping with chrome...anything metal that's not going to see regular friction..well except for the chainrings...those will get it too!

Emphasis on dripping....seriously...I would have enough chrome on it to put a harley to shame.

On some networks, you can trace an IP right down to the house it's at. Many you can trace it to the local providor's building. Most just spew out somewhere that the providor owns. (My IP says I'm in Richmond, VA but I'm near Detroit, MI).

By TRACERT'ing the guys IP he could then put it into a US Tracer, which most likely game him the location. Then went to TerraServer and got a satellite image of the area.... voila.

What I like to do when I get this kinda stuff is I reply using my "junk mail" e-mail address and give the particulars of our national police's commercial crime unit. That sometimes helps more than shouting at my monitor.
