I found this set on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7177565407&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1)
Are these at a decent price? They have a while to go, and about 150 views, so I'm guessing it will go a little higher. Does anyone recommend buying new, so that you have a warranty of some sort? Anyone have negative experiences with buying used wheelsets? Thanks.

I'll go ahead and be the first to say get the IRO. It's a much better deal.

Yeah, I've been looking at that standard wheelset, but have been exploring all options to possibly save some $$$.

With what you're looking at on eBay, you got a starting bid of $150 + $20. The shipping on the IRO set might be around $20, but who knows how much the bid will get to and the IRO set will be new. If there is anything wrong with the IRO set, Tony (at IRO) will make it right. I'm sure the guy on eBay will forget your name as soon as he puts it on the box.
You do know that it's a MTB wheelset yes?

I assume that MTB means mountain bike, and no, I didn't know that these are MTB wheels. I am new to bike building, so what in the listing gives it that distinction?

This...
The rear hub is a flip flop and has a 16t and 18t freewheel that are included
Also, the pic that shows the Surly rear flipflop hub also shows both freewheels. Plus Mavic 717s are XC (cross country) mtb rims. Nice mtb singlespeed wheels though...
Mavic 717 rims are mountain bike rims (which is also probably why no ne has bid on it... yet). They do make a cross version but these are probably the MTB ones and the two freewheels are also sort of a giveaway since MTB SS is much more popular than MTB Fixed.

That one on eBay looks like a 26" MTB wheelset. The x717 is, AFAIK, only made in 26", the rear hub looks to be spaced at 135mm. So, you need first to narrow down what kind of wheels you're looking for--single speed/fixed for a road bike, or for a mountain bike?
If for a SS/fixed road bike, the ones from IRO are a good deal. If for a SS MTB, you may as well just get a wheelset w/ a regular cassette hub and use spacers.
