RIP my two month old Vredestein Fortezza. You were a great tire until I skidded right through you on the side of Lake Michigan this past Sunday. Sticky on pavement, able to hold 160psi, and sexy blue stripes – you were beautiful. I’ve replaced you with another, but I’ll never forget you - the original, my first.

Yeah, I skidded through that sucker on Sunday doing some skids on the stepped concrete wall on the edge of Lake Michigan south of the Planetarium. Actually, I had three flats that day. I jinxed myself by saying I’ve never had a problem with a patch. I had a few problems. Three flats in under an hour. Then, when replacing the tire/tube last night I blew the damn thing off the side of the rim (don’t try to seat a tire in the dark…).

Hi,
you can get another one from Perfomrance or Nashbar pretty cheap. And if you pump it up to a sane pressure it will stick around
for about a year.

I just picked up a new one from the local Performance shop here in Chicago yesterday on sale for $25. I think I'm going to get another one tomororow.

I love insane tire pressures. I've been skidding a lot lately (I recently got good at it) - that's why it wore out so quickly. That and the pavement I was skidding on this past Sunday was like a cheese grater.

You oughta get a cheap-o rear tire to skid on, but when you really just wanna ride (with some skidding, of course), put the new Vred on...

i, too, destroyed a fortezza (black) in < 3 months. they are very soft tires. while that makes for a great ride and good grip, it doesn't help in the durability department. i wouldn't buy them again.

well, until I can find something I like as much as this tire that last longer, I'm stickin' with them.

Nice wheelset!

Why in the world are you running 160psi?

Thanks!

I like the higher pressures. It's like riding on glass.

(well, here in chicago very very very bumpy broken glass).

but it feels super nice on the track.

I picked up 4 of them from Nashbar.com a few weeks ago when they were on sale for $16 each. I now have my next year's supply (and then some).

BTW:Just checked their site. It seems they sold out of them.
